Linkin Park's album A Thousand Sons has lots of political messages in it. The one in particular that screams revolutionary leftist views is "Wretches and kings". Just the speech by Mario Savio tells us that the song is leftist in origin and then the lyrics themselves take it to another level.
It sounds to me as if the song is talking about capitalism and its oppression, which is probably why they threw in the mario savio speech of the machine (the evils of capitalism and the workers wanting to be free of the oppression of the managers/employers). But the whole song literally SCREAMS revolutionary left (to me at least)
What do you think it represents? Let's get a discussion going about the lyrics themselves

Link Park's lyrics are shallow (I haven't heard their newest works), they are not personal, everyone hears what he wants to hear.
I don't know if that's the case since I haven't heard the song, but I suspect it is.

Well...I like Linkin Park...but then again...Sam_b would probably say I have the mindset and intelectual development of a thirteen year old...so that would figure ;-) :-D
But yes Linkin Park lyrics are a bit generic and they are not necessarilly revolutionary but society critical which would indeed speak to their primary demographic. Which leads to such brilliant constructs as:
I’m swimming in the smoke
Of bridges I have burned
So don’t apologize
I’m losing what I don’t deserve
The blame is mine alone
For bridges I have burned
So don’t apologize
I’m losing what I don’t deserve
What I don’t deserve
Which is completely non sensical in a sensible way. It reminds me of Twilight.
Also...its a thousand suns...not sons. ;)

doesnt take a communist to see that the world is fucked up and the system is oppressive. that level of consciousness is common. doesnt mean to say its not to be encouraged, but i think we should understand that this negative consciousness ("fuck the system theyre just screwing us over" etc) is qualitatively different to the positive consciousness of communists ("it is possible for humanity to progress beyond class and state hierarchy and to organise society for the good of the people"). negative consciousness can be transformed into positive consciousness when people understand enough of how things work, via practical activity, study of history and theory, etc..
That said I havnt listened to the song yet,, so apologies if i assumed wrong

I always thought that Linkin Park were progressive liberals - not leftists

TBH, if I was in a band amassing millions of $$$ I wouldn't be particularly 'lefitst' either. It comes with the territory, and struggling to get by.
