I absolutely hate doing introductions. So I'm just going to throw something together here.

I'm from Austin, Texas. The leftist scene here is pretty bangin', but I'm not able to be terribly active in it. I try to participate as much as I can, but I don't have a lot of free time, and I don't have my own transportation, but I still try to do as much as possible.

I guess if I had to place myself in a branch of the left, I'd call meself an anarcho-communist. My history with the left started when I was a kid--my mom joined a labor union and my dad flipped out. I asked my dad what he was so upset about, and he told me what labor unions were. My mom's a generic social liberal and my dad is a libertarian (also an alcoholic and a homophobe and a general jackass--coincidence? I'll leave that up to you). I was a generic democrat kinda guy until I met a friend a couple years ago who was a leftist on a bus ride. We talked about communism for like six hours, and the next day, I went out and got some key leftist literature and since then, it's been love at first sight.

I'm not sure how much I can/should share about what I enjoy doing outside of leftism, so I'll stop it here. But I already enjoy this place :]

Hey, glad you're here. Sorry about your dad being so reactionary. I think a lot of us have the same problem, to varying degrees. (Mine is not very political, but he always makes fun of me for my leftist views. And also Catholic.)

Hello, my dad is the same, but that's what happens when you are brain-washed with fox news all day, I'm new to the site too, but welcome comrade.

My name is gabrielle reed from LA, and as you are able to see, I like to write. Throw me nearly anything and I'm sure I can put it into writing. I write for many various reasons: planning, helping, documenting, venting, etc. Writing is a wonderful form of connection, and it is among the best solutions to share anything you know to everyone and learn from other individuals on the way. Some of my favorite topics include politics, home repairs, web marketing, personal finance, the human body and why I was never as gifted as Michael Jackson. I write to live, and I live to write.

really? I didn't notice too many active groups down that way, with the exception of the ISO. Some lady handed me a WWP paper once, too, so I guess they have some kind of minor presence. Of course there's Worker's Defense Project and a few other things. (I lived in Austin briefly)

Anyway, welcome.
