So this term gets thrown around a fair amount but is there any merit to it? Are there any actual socialist groups (aside from the CPUSA in the 1940s) that endorse patriotism or the wars? From what I've seen everybody is pretty consistent in being against patriotism and imperialism.

The Longuetists among others endorsed the first world war as a means of "defense of the nation". But aside from that I don't know many.

Solidarity, which is supposedly a 'marxist' organization in the USA recently endorsed the NATO bombing campagin in Libya. They are star spangled socialists though who couldn't see that.

(the fact they released a different statement opposing nato intervention though still supporting the rebels nonetheless doesnt matter)

What could be more despicable to revolutionaries like Lenin and Trotsky than an American "Demo-Trot" or "Obama-Trot"!
You'd think they'd know better! Apparently, intellectual political consciousness isn't enough. You actually have to actively consistently align yourself with the workers and the oppressed in mind, heart, words, and deeds! For such revolutionaries, it is impossible to settle for this status quo, and it is impossible to support an exploiting oppressing ruling class or its system.
