I know not where to post this, as we have no video game section of this forum, we should as it will attract gamers like me who have no life:D

is what the blatantly communistic Red Faction Guerrilla portrays truly terrorism? I was told in a previous thread I made that a proletarian revolution as well as terrorism is OK as long as its harming military personnel. Well, in this game's case it grapples with the issue of terrorism and revolution at the same time

the news footage it shows is modeled after real life news footage in places like India and the Philippines, and how it brainwashes people into over generalizing terrorism, as the Mars Revolutionaries are said to be terrorists, plain and simple.

yet they help people, or so it seems to do so to get support, and have noble causes(fairer relations with Earth, worker rights, driving out capitalist monopolies such as the Ark Corporation and EDF)

capitalism is said to be in crisis, with stock going down and daily mass riots world wide. The Amazon rainforest is a desert due to overlogging
And resources are running dry, with Mars unable to substain Earths demand for Resources(IE not Earth's demand, but the Market's Demand for Martian resources, in this case Ore)

Is this game promoting terrorism, or is it trying to show how groups opposed to capitalist exploitation are lied about and called terrorists to make them look bad?

I think this game is rather "educational" in the sense that it brings awareness to real life issues, the issue of terrorism and revolution

There actually is a gaming section. It's a sticky in the literature & film forum.

I love the Red Faction games though. The destruction is so much fun. I just picked up Armageddon the other day. Haven't gotten around to playing it yet though. But I wouldn't think too much into this. It's just a game. Play and have fun.

Armageddon doesn't deserve the red faction title. I have to say it.

But yes, in guerilla we can see the kind of manipulation we can expect from the bourgeoisie.

Armageddon isn't that good? Bummer :(

But yes in Red Faction Guerrilla you see the type of manipulation of the word terrorism used against the great people's army. They're dangerous criminals and thugs while the EDF is just protecting the people of Mars from the dangerous thugs. When in reality it's the exact opposite the EDF are the people terrorizing the population and you're liberating Mars from them and the companies.

In relation to real life it really would be considered terrorism what the Red Faction is doing, which is why you can't be afraid of being called a terrorist. Or as Carlos Marighella said "The accusation of 'violence' or 'terrorism' no longer has the negative meaning it used to have. It has aquired new clothing; a new color. It does not divide, it does not discredit; on the contrary, it represents a center of attraction. Today, to be 'violent' or a 'terrorist' is a quality that ennobles any honorable person, because it is an act worthy of a revolutionary engaged in armed struggle against the shameful military dictatorship and its atrocities."

Anything the armed workers would do would be called terrorism.

Ha, I love the guys who make Red Faction games, They are also coming out with a Third Saints row as well. Saints Row 2's expansion pack "Corporate warfare" is you pretty much destroying corporations.

Its ironic that a corporation would make a game about waging a guerrilla war against corporations

I once in Red Faction drove a dump truck THROUGH A TWO STORY CORPORATE OFFICE BUILDING! bad ass! I wish I could do that in real life!

ya, the game pretty much show us how the term "terrorist" has been over generalized to mean any act of violence, regardless of purposes for the attacks.

by India and Philippine's government's definition of terrorist, the French, Russian, Chinese, Vietnamese, American, Laos, Cuban Revolutions are terrorist movements.

The founding fathers' were evil terrorists. The continental army was the armed wing of their radical movement, which was led by General Washington, who is a war criminal as he HAD THE GULL TO ATTACK OPPRESSIVE, MONARCHIST BRITISH SOLDIERS!

Dump trucks are like the easiest way to destroy buildings while driving. At least they're common enough to drive by so you could use them. I just thought up of a new tendency, Dump Truckism. Organize other Dump Truckites and we'll show corporate offices the might of the Dump Truckist movement!

here is the best part: an EDF soldier threw a grenade at it, and it EXPLODED INSIDE THE BUILDING! the whole office burst into flaming concrete!!!

imagine if we drove trucks loaded with fuel into office buildings. We'd be invincible!

PEACE...THROUGH DUMP TRUCKS! JOIN THE PROLETARIAN EXPLODING DUMP TRUCK MOVEMENT TODAY!

Red Faction is a commodity produced by a multi-national, multi-million dollar corporation. At best, it serves to make revolution and armed struggle look trendy, and to further commodify the idea of being a revolutionary. Basically, it's a step above the Che t-shirts being sold in Hot Topic.

My advice to anyone who thinks any AAA game is remotely revolutionary or educational is to go play some indie games that explore political themes without the hyper-violence and tacky "revolutionary" dialogue.

"One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter."
"History is written by the victors."

I think that about sums it up. If Lincoln and the rest of them had lost the American Civil War, we would be calling them terrorists now.
