While looking for German language books online I stumbled across this site with tons of language course books. Most are for beginners so it may help some people out. There are literally dozens of them on the site in various languages like German, Russian, French, Polish, Hebrew, Greek, Spanish, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Vietnamese, Mandarin etc.

I've been learning German very casually for a few years now and I have decided to step up the studies a bit as I want to be able to think in it like my native language.

Also, if you are more of the type that needs to "see and hear" or have your lessons be interactive, the BBC language programs are the best I've found so far. . . and also free!

You guys can also try http://ebookee.org/

It has tons of stuff on it but unfortunately, I think most of the language books do not have audio supplied. But, most of the popular ones do. It's worth a look anyway. I think they the majority come in pdf format.

Also http://www.unilang.org/ is pretty good, but don't expect any good discussions on linguistic theory though :/.

anyone know any good free resources for Japanese?

There are 8 different books listed on the first link in this post under Japanese. Did you check those?

If those don't help for whatever reason check omniglot.com, they usually have a few learning resources listed.

Yeah, you need to use the side menus to find stuff.
Japanese (http://languagebooks4free.blogspot.com/search/label/Japanese) then click on "Mais informações »" for the book it self.

And there's 26 various books in this link: Japanese, in various languages.

http://fsi-language-courses.org/Content.php

These have pdfs and mp3s of the FSI courses, developed for US diplomats and staff. And they're public domain, which you can't say about the blog linked in the OP.
