If the U.S. is forced to withdraw from its global military role due to budget cuts, fighting might actually increase.
Sounds like a job for Team America: World Police!

Correction: We're pro-imperialists, encouraging people to support the military so that this war can continue.

Time doesn't know what it's talking about. If you trace every major conflict in the world today, it's because of some imperial power or another going where it shouldn't have. Not that I predict the absence of an imperial power after the US, but Time seems to imply that some kind of empire is necessary for global stability. We, of course, know that is not the case.

There's a whole host of alliances and dealings, all that happens is certain national capitals and groupings get the spoils over others. Chinese and co, the latin countries when they get their shit together, Euro countries etc sometimes blocs split but I think there are general groupings. I think US could be a very long way from the abyss, likewise the exploiting class in general but all it would mean would be a state or collection getting more powerful in place of the US. The question is, is this realistic and what's the time span. Things simply cannot continue the way they are for a great deal longer. Honestly, I think we only have decades left and it might be few rather than many. It is clear to me anyway that "Socialism or Barbarism" is on the doorstep it is not a saying as if it's something which might occur in the future. Sorry for the pessimism. On the upside, I do think communism is possible, it is a necessity.
