Back in 1994, Micheal Moore filmed this:

Although it is merely a publicity/shock value stunt, this is a interesting video in that it shows well the various views on Communism that the American public had/has.

Also, I want to know what they did with all the stuff in that truck...

It was all stuff out of the CPUSA's National Office. I figure it went back there.

Gus seriously wanted to get on that truck. He thought it would be a golden opportunity to talk to people about what the CPUSA stood for and believed in. He was right about that, too. It would have been a great chance to meet and talk to people across the country.

I don't think it's illegal to posses or transport commie literature, communists aren't really a threat nowadays.

The Giddiyap Society. (http://giddiyap.com)
Many days ago a traveling organizer checked into his hotel room in a red-state town. The organizer traveled often, and frequently found himself without other entertainment than Fox and CNN. By chance a fellow-traveler had left a slim volume in his bedside table drawer. Opening it casually, the organizer's eyes fell on the following sentence:

The history of all human society, past and present, has been the history of the class struggle.

In a flash our traveler's life mission appeared to him: he would devote himself to spreading the word of Marx, leaving copies of his work and others’ in hotel rooms everywhere, wherever lonely, progressive travelers like himself yearned for knowledge and solace.

Since those early days the Giddiyap Society (http://giddiyap.com) has grown into an organization of selfless volunteers, traveling far and wide, taking the Good Word to hotels, motels and B&Bs throughout the world. The Society's work is voluntary, a labor of love and support for the ignorant and the oppressed. Won't you join and help us? Thank you.

Yeah, but the fact that it was illegal kinda shocks me. Maybe it's because I've lived my entire life without Soviet Union, dunno.

Just don't apply to become a U.S. citizen or get hired as a public service worker (in a lot of places) or you'll be forced to answer questions like: "Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of, or associated with, a Community Party?"

Yeah..'cause the USSR was actually communist. No wonder Moore thinks the only way to fight capitalism is by voting for Obama.

I think it can be assumed that, when Moore refers to "communism", he's not referring to any particular body of theory or ideology, but just "Soviet-ness". That's not unreasonable, given the context.

Well that and considering the political climate in the 1990s when certain people were trumpeting that Clinton was a communist and destroying America (gee, doesn't that sound familiar?), and people believed it to the point it became a viable political tactic for certain people due to what they thought "Communism" was.

I recall a certain bumper sticker, a red field with "Clintonomics" written in yellow with the C styled as a hammer and sickle, on an old car back then. I was a young kid then but I think that's how it looks like, was probably from one of the Republican candidates trying to secure the Republican presidential ticket then.

That was the real point of what Moore did really, shock value and just to get on tape what people thought "Communism" was. It's great stuff though, just to hear some people's responses.
