I've become increasingly interested in the principles of Marxism and Communism. I've got three volumes of collected Marx and Engels literature (the Manifesto, exerpts from the Capital, etc.) and I'd like to know if anyone has any particular articles they'd suggest for a newbie to start reading. Somebody referenced me to this forum (yeah, it's me from Spanish, buddy... Where are you?) and told me to start with the Manifesto.
Anyway, any references to good books or articles regarding Communism, Socialism, and/or Marxism would really be helpful.

Thanks!

I think what you have is sufficient to make a pretty good beginning.

Within the books you have, you should find the text of Wage Labour and Capital and Value, Price and Profit, two short works that I always recommend.

Otherwise, I would just start and the beginning and go on to the end.

If you run into difficulties, by all means raise questions here and plenty of folks will volunteer explanations.

Good Luck.

Hey, here I am.

go to http://www.marxists.org/
There you can find the manifesto, several texts by Marx, Engels, Lenin, Trotsky, etc. There's also an encyclopedia of Marxism where you can find brief definition of terms, people, events, etc. referred to by communists.

The redstar200 papers in redstar's post is good as well if you want a load of anarchist crap. :D j/k
But yes, it is quite good, despite the fact that i do not agree with many of his principles, his site does present lots of inteligent argument for anarchism.

Try, author John Orwell, he wrote fiction novels "1984" and "Animal Farm" both based on fundamental communist ideals. I really enjoyed reading them. :)

Why would reading Orwell help him with knowledge on communism ?

Animal Farm is a parody of the Soviet Revolution, it is not a favorable parody.

1984 is basically a look at a totalitarian society, which many believe is based on a communist society.

They're good books but how would they help him ?

I am also pretty new to the ideas. There are plenty of online resources where works of the greats can be obtained. marxist.com , marxists.org (<-- very good) and by just throwing names into google and looking about. Most of these sites also have liks to other sites sharing the knowledge.

I started The State and Revolution by Lenin two nights ago. Great reading. I love the way he takes work my Engels and Marx and analyzes it. I plan to buy Capital at the end of the month.

:)
