This is obviously a political stunt: part of the right-wing's "color-blind society" agenda. It's not unlike how reactionary college students in the late 90s would have "white male cupcake" give-away to protest affirmative action programs. The goal of these types of stunts is to distort the mainstream consciousness on race and turn back the gains of the civil rights movement.
The underlying argument is that the US is an "even playing field" where racial inequality is a thing of the past and any attempts to address racial inequality is actually "reverse racism" and an attack on white people. To counter reverse racism, they try and create services for "white people" - but even if you belie their ridiculous "reverse racism" idea, the reverse of reverse-racism is still just plain old fucking racism. Fuck these smug suit-and-tie nazis.

Are they doing it for the lulz?
I mean how could these people be serious? white male scholarship? It's stupid.
With the average cost of a four-year bachelor's degree exceeding $100,000 in the U.S., college scholarships are in high demand.
So when Marcus Carter presented a $500 grant to Brendan Baird on Thursday to help him offset the cost, he couldn't understand the controversy.
Carter, an African-American, is the vice-president of the Former Majority Association for Equality - a group that awards scholarships solely to white men.

They are doing it to push a political agenda as reflected in the title of the Newspaper article: "
'I don't feel racially oppressed': African-American man hands out a whites-only scholarship"
Their goal is to white-wash racism in our "color-blind" society, pardon the pun.
I did a search on google by entering the scholarship recipients name (he had a shaved head so I was kind of curious if there were any reports that he might be a fascist*) and most of the news headlines that came up had titles like: "Black man gives "whites only" scholarship" - so it is pretty apparent that the line being pushed in this organizations press releases and what editors want to focus on is how, "oh look, racism must be over".

I mean shit, do you think if you aren't a fascist you might not want to shave your head the morning you receive a "whites-only" scholarship!?

This shit is really only possible in the US...
Race still plays a part there in many things.

Scholarships based on race are stupid. Whether it's black, white, or Hispanic. They only create more racial tension. "Affirmative Action" should be based on wealth. A rich mexican has it easier than a poor white man.

A rich mexican has it easier than a poor white man. That's relative and not always the case. If you mean a millionaire verses someone making 20K a year - maybe. I have white skin and make less than 20K and there was a black store owner who got killed by police in Oakland about a year ago... he probably made and had more money than me, but I'm not racially profiled. Besides, this formulation ignores that blacks and Latinos in the US are disproportionately more likely to be poor or unemployed in the US.
And affirmative action was based on income as well as some racial or gender considerations... I had affirmative action because of (lack of) wealth. Trying to build working class struggle in the US while ignoring the racial inequalities that are pushed on top of the economic and class inequalities is like trying to build a new house but ignoring the broken foundation that wreaked the old house in the first place. We need a united working class to fight capitalism and addressing racial and sexual inequality has to be at the center of building a class fight-back in the US.
This shit is really only possible in the US...
Race still plays a part there in many things.
why??? :confused:For the US ruling class, it's divide and rule and it's their best tool for keeping the entire working class down. Where racism has been the worst always has worse wages for black and white - the solid south no longer has jim-crow, but they still have racism and they are solidly anti-union. The CIO tried to unionize the south but quit when confronted by racism in the south because the union leaders did not want to upset the Democrats by uniting black and white workers and it would be impossible to mount a real labor effort when there is racial segregation.
It's an issue for the working class in the US because it is one of the main things that keep people divided and prevent them from uniting against the common oppressor.

To win, he had to demonstrate a high GPA, community service, sports ability and financial need. But what really sealed the deal is the fact that he is a white man.
A white male able at sports!

Not sure if I'm the first one to point this out but he's wearing a shirt that says "Fight on, Trojans" That means he's the kind of Skinhead that isn't racist. I wonder if this is satire, the guy giving it away is black and the guy receiving it is a reggae loving type skinhead.
