Hello everyone. I have had an account on here for a while now but have barely used it (although I plan to do so more often from now on.) I'm currently in university, reading Philosophy, and have been very interested in political philosophy, current events and political economy for years. I've read books and arguments defending and explaining more or less every ideology I've come across and I find myself in substantial agreement with much of anarchist thought and considerable sections of Marxism. I suppose I would consider myself (albeit tentatively) a libertarian socialist. I also have a question, which although not of great importance I would be grateful to hear answers to. I grew up in a culturally upper-middle-class family that, whilst fairly poor for most of my growing up, is now very affluent (my parents are both teachers at private schools.) I went to a private school for Sixth Form and am now at a good university, and there is a big part of me which feels that a middle-class, privileged student with very little work experience has no business being either interested or involved with radical left-wing movements. I've always been anti-authoritarian, anti-militarist and anti-nationalist, but do you not think it's somewhat naive/pretentious of me to espouse socialist views given my background?

Welcome aboard, it's not pretentious at all, Engels was a factory owner and he was pretty clearly a communist.
