Despite numerous breaches of arms embargoes and continued threats to expand its nuclear weapons program, North Korea has assumed the presidency of the United Nations Conference on Disarmament. In a speech to the 65-nation arms control forum in Geneva, the newly-appointed president, North Korean Ambassador So Se Pyong, said he was “very much committed to the Conference.”

Meh, I think the DPRK is perfect to chair this body given that they have been under severe and immediate threat from WMDs from the world's most armed country for decades. They have always advocated disarmament as well but I would hardly expect the DPRK to do so on their own.

What a joke. Not the fact that North Korea now chairs the conference, but the fact that it exists.

"The United Nations Conference on Disarmament" How absurd. Just like the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. All these things have done nothing about the fact that countless nuclear weapons exist in the world today, especially by superpowers like the US and Russia.

It's funny how the nuclear weapons states will act like they care about disarmament. As crazy as it sounds, it makes sense, because the UN is a useless organization and abolishing the UN would probably leave the world no worse off in the first place in regards to peace.
