What does the title of this thread have to do with the subtitle? Do you imagine that the Democrats are less hostile to Cuba than the Republicans?
Actually, during Clinton's first presidential election campaign, he came out in favor of the Toricelli act (tightening the embargo), which Bush Sr. up to that point had opposed...so there are times that the Democrats are to the right of the Republicans on Cuba. Lieberman responded to Bush's recent speech by saying he wanted to see action, not just tough talk, against Cuba.
BTW, admitting more legal immigrants from Cuba is something the Cuban government has always pushed for. Presumably Bush is promising it in a speech given in Miami because it would be popular among Cuban-Americans as well.

I somehow doubt that the poeple of Cuba will stand for what Bush is doing. Hey! if the states does somehoe take over Cuba, we can always stage another revolution!

Severian is right...
The embargo on Cuba has always been one of those subjects that the Democrats and Republicans have come together on in "bipartisan consensus"--the equivalent of one-party rule in a two-party state. Even the most progressive Democrats running against Bush, like Howard Dean, are adamantly pro-embargo. The anti-embargo voices are largely Republicans who want Cuba for a market.

I think it's a commonly acknowledged fact that on this board that Lieberman is what we in the business call a Jewish Uncle Tom. In other words, a fascist that celebrates Yom Kippur.

Yeah, aren't we lucky. We get to have one more party than was allowed under Polpot in Cambodia.

The US doesn't want to invade Cuba because they are afraid of all the refugees. In the early 90's Fidel said that anyone who wanted to could visit the US and the Americans demanded that he stop the flow. The Cuban people have had 40 years of Socialism, they will not give up their freedom easily. The Cuban Revolution has inspired all of Latin America and it's ideals are taking over thanks to the abject failure of the IMF. I think they should liberate Guantanamo Bay, It would make Fidel a Hero for the Islamic world as well.

Jewish Uncle Tom? Hilarious!
What the hell is the use in having two parties if they get along so well as to be confused as "Republicrats" by someone as progressive as Ralph Nader. The Democrats and Republicans have been quick to fall in line for decades with the reactionary imperial agenda of the U.S. ruling class. Never mind which party is controlling the White House and deciding who is next to be bombed--both parties in Congress will permit it. What is the point in having two parties if the lesser party will not even bother to be opposition?

1. Uncle Tom was a slave who wouldn't resist slavery. Lieberman is a capitalist, or one of their political representatives - more like Simon Legree than Uncle Tom.
2. He's not a fascist. If you throw that word around lightly, it loses all meaning.
3. What's the fact that he's Jewish have to do with anything, one way or the other?
More generally:
Why do so many people on this board think a U.S. invasion would follow Castro's death? I mean, why then, rather than any other time?

No let Bush win.Under his rule revolution will ripen and rise in the US.His action's and wars and taking their toll on the US people.Everybody hates Bush now,the only people who doensn't hate him are those Nazi KKK fucks.I've read Che's book on guerilla warfare, and it said that you don't need to start a revolution,it happens when the incurssion comes,or something like that. But it means to me that start the revolution when the time is ripe.I suggest that we go to public places and plan speeches to make a strong following, and once he makes his final mistake...revolution will happen. The risk of loosing Cuba under his rule is also a major problem, but I have faith in the Cuban people and the leadership of Castro.

good ideas i guess but -
1) revolution in the us???? things would have to be pretty bad for that. even bush couldnt make things that bad. the us has too much power and too many allies
2) faith in castros leadership??? castro is an amazing leader, comrade, but somehow i think that if the us was in cuba castro wouldnt be. hes getting old anyway... and we all have faith in the cuban people but with the us there they might not have much of a chance. we cant let the us get into cuba at all.
hasta la victoria siempre!

you're very right... too bad about that though. revolution is what america needs, but the majority of its citizens are quite oblivious to that fact. maybe in our lifetimes there will be a revolution, i would like to see that. but it won't be within this next decade, at the very least. george bush may be an idiot, but hes still got a strong following, whether or not that following is the majority. and he is certaintly not bad enough to force the people into revolution.

Who cares about Spanish?
Anyway if the US invades Cuba, he will lose. Firstly he would face huge opposition at home and abroad from the public, the Cuban army has over 1 million reserve and full time troops the US would get slaughtered and plus they would have people like me getting the first plane to Cuba and enlisting in the FAR.

The USA will never control Cuba, because the cubans wont give up fighting against the US. The Cubans will never give up their socialistic/marxistic state with good education and health care for a capitalistic nation with allmost no social protection and high rates of unemployment.
Cuba :cuba: will allways fight for the revolution! :castro: :che:
