Georgia: Unions under attack - they need our help
The former Soviet republic of Georgia will be familiar to many of you as the birthplace of Joseph Stalin. Today it is governed by the right-wing Mikheil Saakashvili and its independent, democratic trade union movement is under attack. We've launched a major online campaign today to press Saakashvili to back down, and to respect workers' rights.
This is a campaign that we can win - the Georgian government needs the support of the USA, Europe and others to survive. They will listen if thousands of us raise our voices.
Please sign up to the campaign - it will take you less than a minute:

And then please forward this email on to others in your trade union, to your friends and family.
UK: 750,000 on strike today
There's a massive public sector strike taking place in Britain today - and we have full coverage on LabourStart's UK news page. If you live in the UK and your union is not covered properly, please volunteer to be a LabourStart correspondent so that we can make sure our coverage is comprehensive.
El Salvador: Atilio Jaimes Pérez is free
Less than three weeks ago we launched this campaign - and today we're delighted to report that Pérez has been released from jail. Thanks to all of you who sent off messages. Online campaigns work!
Please make sure to send on that message to the Georgian government today.
Campaigning for a sweat-free Olympics
Finally, you can do your bit to support an international trade union-backed campaign for a sweat-free Olympics in 2012. (We're not talking about the athletes; we're talking about sweatshop labour here.) Check out this page and send off your message.
Thank you!
