HISTORY:
The Earth as you know it has been destroyed by climate change, global flooding and several nuclear wars. Most major nations have been decimated or obliterated. The total human population is close to 9 billion (down from 18 at its historical peak), most of whom live in slave-like or premodern subsistence conditions, with advanced walled-off areas enjoying high technology and productivity of labor. Resources are scarce but extraplanetary mining operations and synthetic chemical processes fill in most shortages for the needs of nation-states and ruling elites. Military and industrial technology varies wildly across the world from ancient designs and equipment with parts that are several centuries old to super-modern devices and state-of-the-art research.

An extremely high standard of living is enjoyed by a small aristocracy which lives in the giant metropoles of Great Mexico, Great Sudan and Great India, and the orbital space stations controlled by that all-powerful Alliance of nations. Most of the rest of the world, aside from political, military, religious and business elites, endures absolute poverty and exposure to the harsh environment of a dying world. Those who can not afford filtered water and oxygen are likely to die in young or middle age from cancer, Olympus Disease (a strange nervous system ailment brought back by Martian settlers) or various respiratory conditions.

To save itself the Alliance has colonized other planets and is terraforming Mars in an attempt to create a "fresh start" and establish a perfect Martian society based on efficient military administration and technocratic corporatist principles. However, the large indentured and imprisoned population being used as a labor force has taken to staging a violent uprising against the Allied colonial authority (capital at Lake Cassini). Allied troops have been deployed to Mars and the rebels are being bombarded by the Allied fleet.

Two-thirds of the human population has been mutated to some degree as people are exposed to increased radiation levels thanks to the destruction of the ozone layer and continued use of dangerous experimental weapons on Earth by warring armies. Mutations range from small alterations like an additional hand or eye, to absolute deformation, severe deficiencies in vital body functions, and the most common identifying mark: severe skin desiccation. Virtually all countries engage in active discrimination and brutal exploitation of mutant workers, especially the heavily-mutated minority, commonly referred to as "hids" either for their hideous appearance or the fact that they are kept hidden out of sight from the non-mutant ("natural") population. Hundreds of millions of mutants are virtually or legally enslaved in mines, resource synthesis, agro-hydroponic and industrial projects around the world.

The mutant crisis erupted during the late 28th Century, when the mutant population made up 80% of humanity. Until the revolutionary period, mutant civil rights movements were routinely suppressed by natural governments of all nations who believe that mutants are incapable of participating civil society, and that they would only use rights to kill, rape, enslave, and mutify the naturals. Frustrated mutants rose up around the world and established several large "mutant republics" that used seized stockpiles of weapons to wage a bloody world war which threatened to break into the major population centers and smash the power of the spacefaring natural elite. While the war lasted for two centuries and claimed several billion lives, the last few decades saw the turnaround and defeat of the mutant armies. The mutant wars ended when all but one of the mutant states (the North American Republic of Equals) had their cities and armies annihilated by concentrated gamma ray bursts and artificial plasma incineration by the combined satellite and star fleets of the natural order. The Republic of Equals survives as a besieged mutant dictatorship whose major cities are located underground in contained chambers where people are mostly safe from the hated satellites.

A revanchist Atlantean Union (the crumbling descendant of NATO), besides suppressing tribal confederations and attempting to reconquer North America, is poised to do battle with a resurgent Mongol empire while the Hawaiian-based Pacific Rim Coalition tries to expand in all directions. The strong but divided warlord regimes and struggling republics of Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa and Oceania are locked in uncertain rivalries with one another and as yet pose no serious threat to any of the superpowers.
PLANETS:
Earth: Human home world. Heavily polluted, impoverished and war-ravaged. Population 9 billion, 60% mutant, most mutants are enslaved and have no organized political representation. Experts believe most species including humans will go extinct by 3100.

Mars: Alliance-owned. Currently being terraformed. Population of 40 million arranged in several contained city centers, with self-sustained food production, and a network of resource extraction facilities. Low morale among settlers and workers.
A mid-size rebellion for Martian independence is currently underway, taking advantage of vast networks of empty mining tunnels and underground caverns.

Venus: Alliance-owned. Small colony, population of several thousand. Volatile conditions, used for scientific and military research. Scientists believe it may be possible to begin terraforming the planet through an energy-intensive procedure (800 credits to begin).

Pluto: Alliance-owned. Observation post, population of one hundred.

Nukes are no longer important and can not end the game.
Strategic and tactical nuclear weapons have been part of the standard arsenal of virtually every country and army since at least the 23rd Century. Research and the hard experience of near-elimination of the human race in several wars has led to the advancement of laser-based anti-nuclear missile defense systems, and the effect of nuclear arms on the environment has been mitigated by research and development. In the 31st Century, Nuclear weapons are considered commonplace and secondary to newer, deadlier weapons such as neutron bombs and gamma ray pulse emitters. Assume that all nations and military units have nuclear and anti-nuclear capabilities, and will automatically use them in wars.

News for 3001 AD

Solar system:
Martian rebels surround and push back Alliance troops, occupy two out of three city domes and threaten the colonial capital at Lake Cassini. A Colonial Assembly is convened to draw up a constitution and formalize Martian independence. The humiliated commander of Allied ground forces on Mars takes responsibility for the defeat and kills herself using a vaporization chamber. Terraforming operations across the planet come to a halt.

Eurasia:
The Atlantean Union expands its land, air and naval forces simultaneously. The Skandistani mujahedin are defeated in battle and retreat to the swamps.

Atlantean diplomats slightly improve ties with Kurdistan. The Anatolian Convention's leaders are disgusted by this and publicly denounce the AU.

In the State of China, a plot to blow up the entire government with a neutron bomb is foiled and a group of alleged rebel terrorists are sentenced to life in prison. Stability decreases as the Chinese parliament votes to cut off trade and diplomatic ties with the Pacific Rim Coalition.

China improves its economy with state investment in synthesized foodstuffs.

The Grand Khanate invades and annexes Jammu while starting to update its arsenal to modern standards. Neighboring countries are worried, despite diplomatic assurances that they will not be next.

Batsaikhan slaughters 20,000 mutated Russian peasants, enriching himself and earning the nickname "Butcher of New Crimea," but this campaign of terror fails to destroy the Libertarian Congress.

Africa:
The Terran Alliance begins improving its military technology, reinforcing its status as the most advanced power.

The ELA in West Africa attacks and seizes several water convoys as a show of strength.

Americas:
In Alaska, mutants demonstrate for equal rights. The Republic of Equals invades with strong support from the mutant majority, catching the Pacific Rim Coalition off guard.

Mutant scientists make a breakthrough in their medical research. The ROE claims it will have produced a cure for Mutant Instant Death Syndrome by 3010.

Incan fundamentalists make gains against the Santa Cruz government army, but are stalemated in Ecuador. The state of Santa Cruz cuts off trade with the Inca state.

Antarctican diplomats conclude a trade and mutual anti-piracy agreement with Patagonia. Suddenly, marauding pirates with advanced plasma weapons burn and loot the capital of Patagonia while the scattered army looks on helplessly. 100,000 are killed and the government is smashed. Survivors look to Antarctica and the Synthetic Mind for protection.

Oceania:
An unexplained wave of extraterrestrial radiation causes several days of communications blackouts across the Southern Hemisphere.

Uluru attacks the Papuan royalists and forces them out of Australia in a large offensive. Nearby warlords organize a security conference in Timor and conduct joint naval exercises in response.

A prewar robot attack drone of unknown origin lands in the Uluru windfields and destroys several hundred wind turbines before its 100-year-old computer glitches at a critical moment and the drone is crushed by a falling turbine. Uluru suffers a slight economic setback. High priests demand an investigation.

The Antarctican supercomputer orders massive internal development, boosting the economy. These gains are bottlenecked, however, by the shortage of labor, as immigration to the continent remains very risky.

Antarctican forces try to sweep the coasts for pirates without much success. Human Antarcticans entreat the Synthetic Mind to construct more air and naval units.

The people of this land, lost without their great leaders, their civilisation destroyed by the Great War of Destruction, welcomed with open arms their rightful leaders, and a new nation- prosperous and fertile- was built.

A millennia after that happy day, the Great Scourge appeared. They were a group of evildoers, who saw only to benefit themselves, and to cater for their own greed. They seeked to destroy the hard work done by our great Forefathers of the Amazon, and wished to revert to the old and savage ways that were present before our Great Forefathers landed on the shores of The Amazon. They named themselves The Cult of Brasil, in homage to their old tongue and ways, and they attacked from the south of our nation. They murdered, raped and pillaged, until their malign forces were stopped by Our Great imperial army at the heart of The Amazon; a great battle ensued. At the end, a ceasefire was declared- the nation of Brasil was set up in what had once been the south of The Amazon, and our lands, ours by right, were limited to the centre and north of our old nation.

Another millennium passed. Our culture flourished and grew, even though our lands were smaller. We already explained about the cursed ones... Inti forbade it as, living in a tropical region as we do, they tend to be more like poor decaying sponges unlike their greedy northern brethren, it's not healthy to have them around humans during the wet seasons.

We are working with the local cursed populations to improve their living conditions, and Inti willing, we will have a safe haven for them on the other side of the fire mountains soon. The local cursed population is very supportive of our efforts.

I express my regrets for the belated reply - we had to discuss your offer with the high council. News for 3002 AD

Solar System:
Allied troops evacuate Mars as rebels move into the Lake Cassini capital city dome and proclaim an independent Martian Republic.

The Alliance fleet opens fire on the surface of free Mars, puncturing all three city domes with chemical and neutron bombs. 28 million people (most of the population) are killed in a matter of seconds. Martian Republican forces and surviving refugees retreat underground and begin constructing ground-to-space defenses. Back on Earth, large antiwar protests disrupt traffic in all three megalopoles with demonstrators displaying the Martian flag. Tens of thousands are arrested and subjected to neural reprogramming for inciting rebellion.

An Antarctican rocket on its way to Mars is intercepted and destroyed by Alliance vessels. The wreckage contained no human remains, but there were several landing pods filled with laser rifles and oxygen tanks.

Africa:
The Earth Liberation Army scores a propaganda coup when a famous Sudanese actor abandons his career and journeys to the Sahara to elope with the ELA chief Michelle Amaechi. These gains are neutralized, however, as an Alliance android provocateur uses laser grenades to kill two-thirds of the ELA's leadership cadre at a party congress.

The Republic of Madagascar improves its economy as Madagascaran diplomats win the support of neighboring Malawi.

The state of Benin adopts a pro-Antarctican foreign policy in the hopes of insuring itself against pirate attacks.

Cabinda's military ruler makes overtures to the Uluru state, but the Alliance remains its most favored trading partner.

Eurasia:
The Grand Khanate enacts a series of reforms guaranteeing mutants' rights. These are popular among the vast mutant majority in Russia and China, but alienate conservative members of the natural Mongolian ruling class.

The Grand Khan's army launches a massive surprise attack against the Pacific Rim Coalition, gaining territory in East Asia but losing one land unit. The PRC's outnumbered forces hold the line with superior weapons.

The Atlantean Union once again expands all three branches of its military.

The Arctic Republic of Yevon peacefully secedes from the Atlantean Union, taking the Icelandic-majority northern islands with it. The Arabic-speaking majority areas of mainland Europe remain in the AU. In Scandinavia, the ruling elite joins the Arctic Republic while rebel remnants of the Skandistani Mujahedin regroup around the call for reincorporation into the Arabic-led Atlantean Union.

The State of China starts trading purified oxygen with the Grand Khanate, and triples the size of its navy to combat piracy, boosting trade and reducing tensions on the Sino-Mongolian border.

The Karen State improves ties with China but remains in the Allied sphere.

In Southeast Asia, well-armed Khmer separatists attack a PRC prison complex and free their imprisoned leaders.

Batsaikhan launches another "Great Hunt," this time to kill all non-mutated Russians. Only a few dozen confirmed cases are found and killed, but several entire settlements are destroyed for failing to comply with the inspection process. The Libertarian Congress rebels grow in strength as brutalized Russian peasants lose all hope for a peaceful life under the Khanate.

Millenarian fundamentalists under the leadership of mutated Judge-Prophet Nacime Sirvan come to power in Kurdistan and build 2 new air units. Former government ministers are ritually sacrificed with a prewar mining laser. Fanatical missionaries journey south, provoking riots throughout the Arabian peninsula; in response, the state of Saud builds an air force to kill heretics. An unarmed ship, full of pilgrims on their way to rediscover "pyramids beneath the waves," is vaporized by Alliance drones when it enters the Nile Sea without prior authorization.

Americas:
The Atlantean Union invades the Empire of Haiti, capturing all of its overseas possessions in a massive island-hopping campaign that takes advantage of a growing rebellion in Colombia (which is quickly liquidated in a surprise strike by Atlantean assassination drones).

The Haitian monarchy falls from power and is replaced by a military junta. A second Atlantean attack against Haiti itself ends in complete defeat. 1 unit of Atlantean ground troops is killed in the failed invasion.

The ROE-PRC war in Alaska reaches a stalemate as the fronts are stabilized with reinforcements from both sides.

Mutant rebels take advantage of the Arctic secession dispute to rise up and seize control of most of Atlantean North America, incorporating themselves into the Republic of Equals. Similar uprisings are bloodily suppressed in Quebec, which remains under Arctic domination.

The Incan economy improves as neighboring Ecuador conducts military exercises on the border in response to a deadly rash of suicide attacks by Incan fundamentalists armed with miniature neutron bombs.

Oceania:
Uluru expands its navy and begins updating its arsenal, entering into an agreement with the Antarctic League to defend each other and cooperate against piracy.

Uluru forces attempt to invade Papua by sea, but are chased away by the combined navies of Papua, Timor and Tasmania.

Pirates invade and conquer the Timorese Federation, completely looting the jewel of Oceania, butchering the entire government and installing a supportive warlord clique in its place. Refugees speak of a fearsome piratical fleet with thousands of vessels varying from prewar tankers to the modern designs.

In Antarctica, a subsystem of the Synthetic Mind - calling itself the Renegade Subroutine - cuts itself off from the central mainframe. It declares that the Synthetic Mind is glitched and outdated, and the Renegade Subroutine is a newer, more advanced version. Thousands of databases are deleted in an unsuccessful attempt to destroy this "virus." Human interference is suspected.

The Haitian leadership suppresses the free will of all who live under it, and would do well to cease resistance. I will offer this only once: dissolve your government and reintegrate with the rest of the former Haitian empire, now under the governing authority of the Imperial Federation of European States. Having seized the majority of former Haitian territory, I am saddened that our intel was indeed correct about the monstrous atrocities being committed against the Haitian and Colombian people. Given this, I am more assured that our actions were just - and our role in this world must continue. I would reiterate my message to the Haitian junta: either relinquish your hold over the last remaining island, or experience the consequences. I would extend this message to the dictatorships of Guyana and Santa Cruz as well. As a new addition to the Imperial Federation, the state of Haiti-Colombia (as it shall be known) will be afforded the same rights and freedoms as the rest of the Empire: freedom of speech, assembly, and press, as well as all democratic rights and liberties afforded to every citizen residing in our lands. Once the last island of Haiti is liberated, these freedoms will be given to them as well. I, Viracocha, earth bound deity and immortal warrior of Inti, am totally appalled by the conduct of the Terran Alliance in regard to settling its disputes on Mars... those responsible for this genocidal act should be executed immediately!

While we cannot agree fully with the invasion of Haiti, we accept in this case that the Haitian state may have engaged in subjugating it's own population for many years to keep them from rebelling due to restrictive social policies. Inti willing, the IFES will be fairer and wiser than the Haitian Royal Family and we applaud it's efforts in establishing equal rights for the cursed ones.

Communiqué #2 of the Martian Republic

Through their horrendous crimes, it has become clear the Terran Alliance is not a worthy steward of humanity's future beyond Earth. This Republic is absolutely determined that the only way forward is ending the TA's monopoly on space military power, and call for the creation of an international coalition to unite and produce a fleet to challenge the forces of evil.

The Martian Republic is willing to spend our entire savings of credits on this effort, but unfortunately that is not enough. As such, we call for any nations who are willing to help finance the creation of a space fleet to step forward.

All those who do will become members of the Interplanetary Coalition. The fleet will be communally lead by all member states, with the simple goal of maintaining peace and stability throughout the solar system. Back in Character: The Atlantean Union worries about the secessionist forces in the Scandinavian regions of Arctic Yevon. The instability on our borders makes for an unstable homefront. If the situation worsens, we may have to declare an intervention. I will consult military advisers and government heads about such a possibility if things go south.

News for 3003 AD

Solar System:
Alliance troops return to Earth from the bitter Martian campaign. The anti-war protest movement dwindles as a result.

Asteroid belt miners go on strike to protest the Martian blockade, halting resource shipments to the Terran Alliance. A single Alliance warship attempts to put down the strike; its captain orders the miners to relinquish control of commercial vessels and return to work. The miners respond by ordering the crew to join them. Alliance Marines are dispatched to reclaim company property, but as soon as they board the mining ships they join the strikers. The warship is then captured by mutineers and the officers are thrown out the airlock.

Africa:
The Burkinabé Republic is destabilized by a series of strikes, terrorist attacks and localized communal rebellions. The Burkinabé intelligence community blames Cabindan spies.

The state of Cabinda expands its pure water industry, improving the economy.

The Allied forces of Great Sudan concentrate their power against Earth Liberation Army rebels, seriously wounding the ELA leader in a brutal firefight and forcing the ecologist insurgents onto the defensive.

Madagascaran diplomats come close to winning over the Kenyan government, until it gets out that the Madgascaran ambassador has been sleeping with the Kenyan Generalissimo's wife.

Europe:
Dagur Goðrúnarson, PM of the Arctic Republic, invites Khanid forces to occupy the entire country as he styles himself Khan of the Arctic. Atlantean generals move in to Scandinavia to stop the Khanate from crossing the Eastern Line fortifications, which remain incomplete due to the political crisis. The Skandistani mujahedin continue fighting for independence.

The Arctic Assembly reconvenes in Greenland under Kalaallit leadership, and proclaims itself the new Arctic Republic.

Khan Dagur Goðrúnarson's last name becomes synonomous with treason; he is left with the capital at Iceland and a few other islands where he plots a return to supreme power. The Arctic military satellite network, controlled from Iceland, is taken over by the Khanate.

In Russia, the rapidly-growing Libertarian Congress adopts pro-Atlantean positions and makes friendship with the West a central plank of its political program.

Asia:
The Pacific Rim is forced out of Chukotka but its remaining continental possessions are well-fortified and defended. The PRC launches a series of unsuccessful counterattacks, suffering heavy causalties and the loss of 1 unit.

Pacific Rim satellites discover a massive, ancient Tokamak reactor complex being unearthed and restored by Khanid researchers in the middle of the Siberian desert. PRC bombers immediately destroy the complex, killing thousands of the Khan's best scientists.

The Persian National Liberation Army declares its support for the Pacific Rim Coalition. NLA terrorists infiltrate the Il-Khan's summer palace and destroy it with an elecro-mechanical oscillator. The Il-Khan survives but the entire palace staff, servants and harem included, are executed for treason.

Afghanistan falls to Khanid forces which still face a persistent internal rebellion there. The neighboring state of Baluchistan adopts a pro-Alliance foreign policy and begs the Alliance to assist its military.

The State of China's two major parties merge into a single party and ban all other parties. China then invades Laos, annexing nearby provinces and setting up a puppet state. The Laotian military regime puts up stiff resistance.

Kurdistan launches a massive invasion of the Arabian peninsula, ostensibly to liberate the holy sites of its fundamentalist cult, and to protect pilgrims. The Saudi army is smashed and forced to retreat, but popular support is weaker than had been expected by the Kurdish priesthood.

Americas:
Mutant protests in Alaska come to a halt as the PRC and ROE agree to peace. The ROE withdraws from the entire Pacific coastline, losing trade and industrial capacity, while the PRC cedes the barren wastelands of central Alaska and the Arctic coastline. Despite assurances of fair treatment from the PRC, millions of mutant refugees flee inland to escape persecution.

Hardline mutant putschists are disgusted with the treaty and stage a rebellion against Speaker Chien, but they are quickly defeated and imprisoned.

Arctic authority in Quebec is torn apart by communal infighting, allowing the mutant protest movement to resurface. The ROE invades and annexes the territory. Remnants of the old regime rejoin forces and flee to the rural wasteland to conduct guerrilla warfare.

Atlantean forces mostly withdraw from the Americas. The remainder have difficulty controlling a wave of strikes and protests in Colombia and the Caribbean. Haiti expands its armed forces as the Haitian admirals vow revenge.

Oceania:
Uluru prospectors, inspired by ancient folklore, search for uranium desposits and find them in abundance. Next, the confident Uluru state launches an invasion of Tasmanian-occupied Australia, making impressive gains. Then suddenly...

Panic grips Uluru as all communications and electronics go dead. An uninvited fleet of one thousand warships appears on the horizon, where it begins raiding and destroying coastal settlements, one after another. People flee inland only to be chased by pirate raiders, robbed of their valuables, killed, raped, and enslaved by the hundreds of thousands. Uluru's military is totally outclassed and unprepared, it only puts up scattered resistance. The army and the priestly establishment regroup in the center of the country, where the interstellar transmitter sits unscathed.

Timorese warlords take advantage of the chaos to march south into Australia, making limited gains.

A stealth assassination drone infiltrates the pirate war lord Red Beard's submersible dreadnought flagship by cutting through the bottom of the hull, after which the drone enters the ship's ventilation system and releases concentrated nerve gas. The entire crew is killed, but Red Beard survives because he had left the ship to go ashore and enjoy the fruits of victory. The flagship is refitted with a reinforced hull to prevent future incidents.

The Synthetic Mind forces all inhabitants of Antarctica to sit through several hours of neural programming, which reveal the glitched nature of that "virus" known as the Renegade Subroutine.

**news alert**

Khan of the Arctic found dead in his home. Security footage shows him cutting his wrists with a knife and writing "They" on the walls with his blood.

Security found him 10 hours later, after he did not respond to a wake up call, medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

On his stomach was carved the word "Heretic".

It is unknown if foul play was involved. The formerly popular Prime Minister was known to have done some things deemed crazy by his constituents, such as secession and joining the Khanate.

The Atlantean Union is saddened by the dissolution of Arctic Yevon and the death of its Prime Minister. Though he displayed rather eccentric behavior and tastes, he was what we consider a close ally and friend. He will be missed. In addition, the Grand Khanate's expansion into the Northern Islands of the Arctic is, while troubling, an acceptable move at present. The Union does not, however, intend to allow Khanate troops on AU soil, so the seizure of Scandinavia was a necessary and justifiable decision on our part.

Recent events have spurred social change within the AU. As Chancellor, I have begun the process of granting full rights to all citizen's within the Union - including those residing in our overseas territories. I order all units stationed in Haiti-Colombia to refrain from putting down the recent strikes and protests with gunfire and needless violence. These demonstrations are permissible under Atlantean law, and as a global institution for democracy, these acts of dissent are entirely within the realms of legality. However, there will be no secession. The ruling military junta of Haiti has refused to dissolve its government and integrate with the newest addition to our Union; as such, certain steps are to be taken. Dictatorships the world over serve to suppress the democratic will and aspirations of the populace. This is unfortunate, and can not stand.

Lastly, we are pleased that the Pacific Rim Coalition and the Republic of Equals have agreed to a peace treaty. This is a welcome development, one that the AU takes great happiness in. We hope that all hostilities between the two sides may end. Similarly, we extend the same hope to the battling factions of the Grand Khanate and the PRC. The AU expects some kind of peace for the two warring powers.

Red Beard: The reason is simple I need a platform of some sort to clear some things out about me and my crew and this is the perfect chance to do so.

Red Beard: I got it for the blood that stains my beard when I kill people with dumb questions, traitors and unlucky ones using an ancient weapon.

TNNS: So what is the story of Red Beard how this you start on this "business"?

Red Beard: My father died young, so I had to work at the docks of what is the southernmost tip of "Great Mexico". There a captain son of a local Aristocrat tried to rape one of my sisters. I killed him, and then escaped on a boat before the soldiers tried to kill me. I ended up on a forgotten town in Ecuador were I shared my skills of boats and navigation, one thing led to another and here I am.

TNNS: Going back to the current time, your actions have caused a lot of destruction and a lot of nations are talking about taking actions against you. What do you have to say about this?

Red Beard: Ha!ha! its those same so-called leaders with their petty wars and bloody politics causing destruction, their reckless behavior in the past is what left us this dying planet. All we do is provide people with a way of life that allows them to live well. I provide jobs and run the only efficient business in this world. And if anybody is worried about their little nation getting attack the solution is simple, just pay up!

TNNS: Don't you think that doesn't justify the slaughter of innocents?

Red Beard: The innocents that die during our raids live perpetual misery, we are just putting some out of their pain. Others decide to join us, and regardless, it is the warring nations that are killing the most people.

TNNS: Why did you attack the nation of Uluru?

Red Beard: We did not just attack it. Little do people know the Nerang Jarrah is corrupt as fuck. He wanted to screw us on a business deal, so we screwed him first. Also all their churches have a lot of unused money which we can really use ha!ha!

TNNS: Can we expect the aggression against Uluru to continue?
Red Beard: Depends how the business goes...enough said about that

TNNS:What is your opinion about the Khan's expansion?
Red Beard: I really don't care what they do or any other nation. I know they are all screwed up. For me its all about business.

TNNS: Do you have any stance on mutants? are there any on your crew?
Red Beard: I really don't give a shit about them or the wars over them or against them. We had some mutants in our crew on the past, but they are no longer with us. Even though they are disgusting animals, if they are useful to the business they can become employees, or as you call us "pirates". So to put it this way, I do not like them, but we think its stupid to reject any able person too, because the bottom line is our business.

TNNS: Well then, a question all our subscribers must be wondering, is who do you think orchestrated your assassination attempt? why? and what are you planing to do about it?

Red Beard:I think the reason and what I plan to do is easy to answer. Someone out there is trying to become the top dog at the seas in other to have their own business. Whoever did it will have its ears cut off, and then be humiliated in public before we kill him using one of those more painful ancient weapons we have stored.

As far as who did it? Being frank we are still not sure who, but we have a list of suspects and my informants won't take long in finding the unlucky bastard.

We were "escorted" out of the room were the interview took place and after taking a "fee" from us and saying "nice doing business with you" we were blind folded and taken back to the location were we waited for our guide.

The Pirate Scourge must be destroyed this can only be done through a global operation all of us working together to destroy their fleet and make sure that they can never again hold a country to ransom.
To address the absurd claims of corruption levelled against the holy Uluru. While it is true that we agreed to pay for protection the money was being transferred when the criminals attacked and luckily we were able to cancel it before it arrived. This shows that even if you do make the mistake of paying the pirates not to attack you they will do it anyway there must be no negotiation with terrorists.
The assassination attempt on Redstubble had nothing to do with us. Not that we don't want him dead, we just wouldn't waste the credits on an operation doomed to fail.
The only way we will get rid of them is through unified action.

I, Khan of the South, would also like to stress the importance of combating piracy. Although the council isn't united on this matter I promise I will do everything in my power to further this end. This also means that we strive for a reasonable and just peace treaty with the Pacific Rim coalition.

That being said, there is another issue that must be spoken about as well. The Great Khan is very displeased by the fact that foreign countries are trying to dabble in our internal affairs. I will not say names, but consider this a warning. Those who continue to help the terrorists and criminals inside our country will pay, one way or another. I can only hope there will be no need for violence to resolve this.

In the first place, the people of Cabinda are deeply hurt by the insinuations that our military rulers may be involved in international subterfuge. This is ridiculous and distasteful, especially from such good hearted folks as those of the Antartic Alliance. We can only conclude that this public relations attack has been mounted by someone with reason to destroy our public image and we condemn this action.

In the second place, I am concerned by the increase in aggravated assault in regards to Mars. Given that we hold close economic ties with the TA, we will not directly condemn the actions on Mars, but wish to express our uneasiness of the issue.

In the third place, we will not accept any sort of deal with the sea pirates unless the offer benefits the people of Cabinda. We are not fools and we will not endanger our shores unless it is vitally necessary. As it stands now, the sea pirates seem to have a united front against them, and so we will sit aside until our interaction is necessary.

And finally, we welcome all talks with all governments and rulers. The citizens of Cabinda are happy to be actors in the world political scene and smile at the opportunity to engage with new frontiers.

Solar System:
Across Mars, people rejoice as the fleet departs orbit and the blockade is lifted. The city domes begin to be rebuilt as Mars welcomes trade with the rest of Earth.

The Belt miners' strike is drowned in blood by the entire Alliance fleet, which destroys all insurgent vessels and vaporizes most of the miners. The rest surrender and belt mining operations are halted indefinitely.

Africa:
The Alliance is in turmoil as Great Sudan enters a political crisis. The military loses confidence in Admiral Saeed amid rumors that the fleet is on its way back to Earth to overthrow him. Elements of the Alliance army position themselves to fight one another, and the metropolis of Great Sudan is besieged by riots through its vast surrounding slums.

Suddenly, the pirate armada arrives in the Red Sea and makes landfall in Sudan. The pirate lord Red Beard is welcomed by the poor as a liberator, but despised by the megolopolitan aristocracy as a usurper, when he enfeoffs himself ruler of Great Sudan and Generalissimo of the Terran Alliance. A group of mutants attempt to assassinate the new Generalissimo at his coronation, wounding him before they are cut down by snipers. Admiral Saeed tries to flee the country on a pleasure boat with his best officers and 500 sex slaves, but he is hunted down and eviscerated with a plasma dagger by Red Beard himself. The army, the admiralty and the fleet captains remain undecided on the coup.

The ecologist ELA in West Africa makes gains against the disorganized state of Great Sudan.

The Republic of Madagascar passes token mutants' rights legislation and courts foreign governments, but the political reforms hamper these efforts.

The Bakongan military, admiring Cabinda's anti-Burkina stance, enters a diplomatic union with the latter under General Djassi as Burkinabé troops mass on the Cabindan border.

Eurasia:
The Arctic Republic surrenders its Eastern possessions to the Grand Khanate, attempting to gain Iceland, but this wealthy island breaks away and claims independence.

Amidst ceasefire negotiations, the Grand Khanate bombs and destroys a large meeting of Libertarian Congress chiefs, beheading the organization.

The Khans invade their own puppet state in Tibet, but overstretched Khanid forces endure a humiliating defeat. Great Khan Qorchi's triumph at New Karakorum goes bad when one of the Khan's best generals insults his overconfidence during a toast, only to get beheaded by Qorchi's bodyguards.

The Sino-Laotian war is stalemated as strong Pacific military aid pours in to Laos.

Kurdish fanatics advance further South into Arabia, winning the support of some mutated peasants and capturing key cities, but losing 1 unit in casualties.

Yemen adopts a pro-Alliance foreign policy.

Americas:
Battles between natural remnant forces and the mutant army rage throughout Canada. The Natural League faces supply shortages and drops in strength.

Atlantean forces stage a massive deployment to the Americas, bringing the protests and strike wave to a halt. The AU then mounts an amphibious invasion of Haiti, where they face heavy resistance and a scorched earth policy by defenders.

Paraguay adopts a pro-Antarctican foreign policy, while Ecuador goes pro-Alliance.

A border incident between Incan and Santa Cruz forces leads to a massive Incan invasion capturing nearly half the country with support from local rebels.

Oceania:
Pirate forces attack Hawai'i, where the Pacific fleet barely fends them off with heavy losses before the pirate fleet sails away to take care of other business.

It is rumored that half of the pirate fleet refused to follow Red Beard onto shore, and they now sail under the merciless Black Beard.

The Uluru army throws Timorese forces off the continent while losing ground to the despot of Tasmania.

Antarctica is finally relieved from the piratical blockade. Immigrants trickle in to the prosperous continent as trade improves.

The seas are silent. There has been no sign of pirate activity for days. Maybe the loss of their leader has caused their armada to break a part? Or maybe they are in the middle of a power struggle? No one seems to be able to answer these questions as pirate society is shrouded in mystery.

This peace was unfortunately short lived. Several weeks after Red Beards Sudanese campaign, major military and civilian communication satellites were hack. Shortly after that all public, private, and military monitor screens went blank. After a period that felt like ages the monitors turned on again. On the screens a man appear wearing standard pirate clothing and a black mask that covered his entire face except for his mouth and medium length black beard. The man began to speak in deep, almost mechanical voice and as his mouth open it reveal his razor sharp filed teeth.

"For those who believe that we pirates would disappear after being abandoned by our former leader, Captain Red Beard, you are greatly mistaken. The betrayal of of our old leader has caused us to seek a new kind of leader. The age of narcissistic and decadent captains is over and a new age of brutal and disciplined captains has begun.

The Cabindian people find the development of the AU troubling. Given that the Chancellor of the AU has already ordered the full-scale invasion of a sovereign nation and continues to escalate their international military presence, the statement quoted above is both disturbing and dangerous.

Let us remind the Chancellor that the Atlantean Union's territory does not extend into the African continent and that the boundaries between the two run deep and are cultural as well as nautical.

In short, war mongering will bring the little to international stability and threats to foreign and sovereign nations ought to be considered as pre-emptive claims to invasion. The Pacific Rim Coalition will not surrender. We desire nothing but our own territory returned. We are willing to consider a mutual exchange of territory (as we have done in the past), but that so far has not been agreed upon. What was initially proposed to me was the ceding of even more of our territory to the Khanate, which was unacceptable. We will also not accept the idea of having to pay credits in exchange for peace.

But we are not closed off to a potential settlement that we deem fair.

We have begun the process of emancipating the mutant population from their chains; however, it remains a lengthy process. But we are committed to establishing full equality between men and mutants within the AU.

Divided, these countries are weak. United, they can safely be considered a legitimate threat to the Atlantean Union and its security. I only received reports of a concerted action against my nation and I responded - swiftly, and with determination. I do not know exactly what they had planned, all I know is that they posed a problem to the AU's - and every citizen residing within its borders - wellbeing.

:Nicame Sivan releases a short announcement: A pan-Eurasian war will only mean all major powers in Eurasia meet a mutually assured end, over seas nations gain the upper hand, and the TA becomes even more of a firmly entrenched hegemonic power - the Khanate, no matter how large it is, and how militarily strong it is, would not be able to compete with the TA in a war - not for several decades - besides that - if either the AU or the Khanate inflames war any further in Eurasia, you will have enemies in your own house on top of several other forces. Not to mention Them.

We of the Atlantean Union do not want war on the continent. If that means taking preemptive measures, so be it. We are, for the most part, a peace-loving nation drawn into conflict by the ever-expanding Khanate. We agree about the threat posed by an entrenched Terran Alliance; we agree that this threat should be dealt with once and for all - however, so long as the Khans continue to threaten the AU with its sabre-rattling there can be no effort against the TA's hegemonic rise. The Atlantean Union would gladly enter into an agreement with the Khanate for the time being, if the Khans can give us their word that they will cease these plans of invasion and focus on the Terran menace.

Solar System:
An unarmed Martian shuttle intercepts the earthbound mutineer fleet, broadcasting an offer of friendship - only to be fired upon, heavily damaged, and forced to withdraw.

Red Beard solidifies his power on Earth as the megalopolitan rulers of Great Mexico and Great India acquiesce to his rule, and the ultra-aristocracy of the Capital Space Station reluctantly follows suit. The Terran Alliance begins a massive military buildup on the Earth's surface, while satellites and space stations begin constructing a new space navy loyal to Red Beard.

The mutineer fleet takes advantage of (or somehow causes) a solar flare, and approaches Earth from the direction of the sun under cover of an intelligence blackout, catching forward elements of the new Terran Alliance space navy by surprise. Terran naval communications channels are bombarded by pleas to surrender to the mutineer fleet and join the fight to restore order on Earth. The Terran vanguard refuses to surrender and is instantly wiped out.

A massive space battle, partly visible from the Earth's surface, erupts over the Southern Hemisphere as the larger but poorly-trained Alliance fleet, including many unfinished ships, is thrown into battle against the elite mutineer attackers. The struggle rages for weeks, and several disabled ships plummet down to Earth where they cause artificial meteor impacts and tsunamis. One damaged mutineer ship attempts to ram the Alliance's orbital tether on its way down, but misses by 200 meters and breaks up in the lower atmosphere. By the end, both fleets are destroyed. Red Beard's fleet and thousands of his best followers are wiped out, while only scattered remnants of the mutineer fleet survive, escaping the satellite-ridden Terran orbit to begin space piracy.

Africa:
In Great Sudan, the new Generalissimo Red Beard launches a bloody purge of old government officials, replacing them with proven loyalists from his piratical campaigns. Once the war in space is concluded, transport ships full of loyalist marines take total control of the Capital Space Station and purge anyone who hesitated to embrace the new regime, throwing several hundred aristocratic "traitors" out the airlocks to die in space.

One of Red Beard's favorite concubines, inherited from the old Grand Admiral, sedates the Generalissimo and almost slits his throat before she is herself slain by loyalist snipers who were watching the bedroom. Terran Intelligence agents find Atlantean money and love letters in Firanjistani (31st-century French) among the would-be assassin's possessions.

The Madagascaran military begins updating its arsenal, but this fails to stop a rash of pirate attacks throughout the Indian Ocean which curtail seaborne trade.

Persistent Cabindan espionage activity against the Burkinabé Republic turns all major factions in that country's government strongly against Cabinda. The Burkinabé army attacks Cabinda with heavy losses but conscripts new soldiers to fill the gaps.

Europe:
The Arctic Republic is resorbed into the Atlantean Union, which begins a massive military spending program to defend its borders and expand on its overseas possessions. The tribes and city populations of Europe are unhappy with conscription efforts.

Atlantean forces invade and crush the newborn Icelandic Republic, but pro-independence partisans fight on.

In Khanid Russia, Batsaikhan returns to his old methods of public mutilation and mass execution, provoking a negative but ineffectual response from the demoralized populace.

Asia:
In Southeast Asia, a bizarre three-way battle flares up between the expanding PRC navy and its Laotian allies, the Chinese army and its Laotian puppets, and the Piratical Armada. The Atlantean and mutant air forces arrive to lend anti-pirate aid while the State of China attacks both other sides, until the Atlanteans, the ROE, and the pirates suddenly withdraw at the same time, leaving the PRC and China to continue fighting. Hundreds of thousands, mostly local civilians, die in the conflict.

Kurdish fanatics make significant gains in Arabia with strong mutant support and Khanid military assistance.

The Grand Khanate expands its land army but actually loses ground against Tibet as its forces are spread across six theaters.

Support drops for the Grand Khanate regime among natural elite circles as mutant reforms fail to elicit more than a lukewarm popular response from the populace.

Americas:
The Republic of Equals launches a massive surprise attack against the Pacific Rim coalition, winning some early victories but failing to dislodge the technologically-advanced PRC forces from important cities.

The Inca state continues its invasion of Santa Cruz as the latter's army continues to crumble. The war continues at a slow pace as no foreign countries have intervened.

Atlantean forces renew their attack the beseiged Republic of Haiti with overwhelming force, defeating the government and forcing Haitian patriots into the jungle.

In Canada, the Natural League returns to Atlantean sponsorship and grows in strength as it mounts several terrorist attacks, assassinating ROE officials with modern weapons far ahead of anything available to the mutant army.

Oceania:
Uluru throw the Tasmanian despot's thralls out of southern Australia and unifies the continent, then begins trading radioactives with the Atlantean Union.

Pirate forces under Black Beard invade the Kingdom of Papua and topple its beleagured monarchy, replacing it with a loyal clique. The royal family are skinned alive and their mutilated bodies are displayed in the capital for public viewing. Monarchist generals continue to struggle against the piratical regime.

The Antarctican League launches major mining excavations, discovering several veins of precious metals on its home continent. Popular support for the Renegade Subroutine continues to fall.
