I know it's a stupid question (security etc) but what are your exact reasons?

Does it have anything to do with the ideological position of the forum?

So Fascists don't get a hold of it.

And if they do?

I mean all you have to do is look at my facebook to realize im left-wing, and anyone could find me there.

And The Anarchist Tension.

What?

I'm kind of glad we can't post personal information. Because I would've done it by now, and there is now an appreciation thread for me on Chit-Chat. The people involved in that might be able to find me if I had given out my first name, which is rather uncommon, and my state is on here, and I've posted my specific city a couple of times, and I've got a feeling I'm the only person in my city, with my first name. Not that I mind the appreciation thread too much, but it is a little disconcerting.

It may be a relatively free society now, but the US has shown itself to be extremely reactionary especially with False Flag exercises.

It's all about being smart.

Well if you have ever been to Redwatch.org, the fascists take your name and a photo of you, and basically call you for to be constantly harrased, beat-up, murdered, and everything you can imagine.

The Anarchist Tension was a former administrator here that basically became nightmare, and he did a lot of bad things. So RevLeft was closed for 24 hours for clean-up I believe.

It is due to the security culture promoted by the forum administration. It's a smart idea. I think it is also more strongly enforced now in part due to some commie club drama in the past.

Yes, it is against revleft law and you will find yourself behind the bars of banland if you violate it. It's parenting, really. Or maybe babysitting. The idea is that users on here do not have the wherewithal to post information that is most likely already available on the internet that could have potentially negative ramifications. It's stupid, paranoid, and mildly insulting (thank god the BA is protecting me from those nazis that would otherwise be banging down the door of my apartment situated in the heart of an almost entirely Puerto Rican and Jewish neighborhood), but I doubt it's gonna change anytime soon. Also, it seems that half the people on here that bash/blame TAT weren't even around long enough to familiarize themselves with him.

What exactly did The Anarchist Tension do?

TAT didn't do anything malicious with anyone's personal details as far as I am aware. Tbh there is always a lot of bullshit said about him on this forum, which seems a tad unfair since he isn't here to defend himself.

No I didn't. I wanted to know exact reasons, stop being an ass.

TAT went against somebody's will and posted their private information without their consent. I appreciate the idea that being anonymous isn't absolutely necessary, but posting someone's information without their consent is a bit out of order too. I'd say its fair to respect the privacy of others, but then, the information that was leaked by TAT did put that person into a position where they were seen as hypocritical.

With that whole scenario, it is a weighing game between respecting one's right to privacy and exposing someone who may be a hypocrite, to see which is more justified.

Last word on the subject; we are an international forum, what is safe to post for priviliged white kids in the US or western europe might not be for users in russia, turkey, china, srilanka etc etc, users with actual represive regimes with secret police that make you disappear for being an revolutionary leftist.
We don't want them to feel peer pressured into lax security culture hence why we set the rules quite strict.
Users from places like that should feel as welcome and safe as possible here, its enough of an white firstworld party here as it is.
