COD:WAW, which I haven't touched in years. I've had a resurgent love affair with the last two missions, in which you fight your way to the Reichstag and then fight your way to the top to plant the flag. It's just so epic in every meaning of the word, the big courtyard in front of the Reichstag is such a cool battlefield. Once I finish it I'm gonna play some Morrowind.

civ IV, is freeciv better?

I don't really think so. First, Civ IV is a game with an unusually high bar. Part of the problem is that freeciv as I understand at present is based largely on the civ 2 design and frameworks, so a lot of the changes that improved the civilization franchise over the years are lacking from it. Morever, the AI I've found to be somewhat boring and even the AI from Civ I I think had a bit more pazzaz. Of course all this can be customized ad infinitum so it does have that going for it.

Oh BTW I'm playing Deus Ex at the moment, just getting underway with the Catacombs!

Any of the Persona games, especially Persona 4. Nocturne's also pretty good, but its very hardcore and has a shit ton of grinding. Demon's Souls is also good, but ridiculously difficult.

When I get paid on thursday, I'm buying one of these (http://www.amazon.com/Game-Boy-Player-Accessory-Nintendo-GameCube/dp/B000090W86). GBA has so many (original) good games, like Golden Sun, Advance Wars 1&2, Mega Man Zero series, Mega Man Battle Network series, Pokemon 3rd gen/1st gen remakes, and so forth, so I'm really stoked to play them on my living room TV.

Until then, I've been thinking about playing from start to finish the Resident Evil remake for Gamecube. It's been 9 years and that games graphics are still very modern to this day, if not better. I still hate Capcom for porting 2 & 3 rather than remaking them like they did with 1. I would pay out the ass for those...

anyway, to the topic. playing the "realm of freedom" mod for mount&blade: warband a lot latley its a good mod with really awsome features.

also darkest hour, if just the kaiserreich mod wasnt so buggy. many of my saves corrupt and cant be loaded anymore, while other do very well, weird.

and i should go back to cthulhu saves the world, need to finish it. stupd spaceship is confusing.

I personally love DA2, but it is no way an equal to the infinitely superior DAO.

I actually heard that Fallout New Vegas, was a much better game than Fallout 3, when it came to the storyline of everything. I never played the first two Fallouts, but my roommate who has played them almost on an addictive level, says Fallout New Vegas got back to the old sort of ways.

This is a classic and a great game:

In its original arcade format in Japan, this game was called Guevara. Player one controlled Che Guevara and player two controlled Fidel Castro as they fought to overthrow the corrupt US-backed dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista from 1956 to 1959. SNK decided that such a revolutionary plot would be risky in the US, strongly anti-communist and especially so against Cuba. The names were dropped and the plot modified slightly to a war against a tyrannical king. They kept the picture of Che at the beginning though.
The game itself is an overhead run n' gun game.

Yeah, I 'got' RO2, it's good a little... well... unfinished. Singleplayer is awful, but the gun play is alright. I only played RO1 briefly many years ago so I can't remember what it was like, but I like the extra touches like being able to change busted MG barrels and being able to switch from scope to ironsights on your Sniper rifle, as well as being able to adjust the sights on all weapons to compensate for bullet drop.

I'll probably leave buying it until a month or so down the line to kill time to Saints Row 3 and Battlefield 3, although I'm heading back to Uni next week so I probably won't have any time to play any of them.

It can be a matter of preference. I personally play COD more because all my buddies own that game over BF, yet I do wish COD would include the destructible environments and physics of BF3 to enhance the experience. Hiding behind a wooden wall while RPGs pepper it doesn't really make sense lol.

I'm not part of any fan war but I gotta say that destructible environments and realistic physics is definitely a bonus. Also what I like about Bad Company 2 is how much it emphasises the need for squads and teamwork. You don't really get that in the COD series. There also seems to be a greater emphasis on vehicles in the Battlefield series, especially when it comes to helicopters (which only appear as killstreak rewards in the COD franchise as opposed to fully-controllable vehicles in Battlefield).

Save the world from climate change. I cannot do it! Even with world government powers and starting with the whole world's attitude at "green", it is impossible I think. Even if I crash the economy by banning coal in 2040 and oil later, (while having China on Nuclear) I run into famines and reduce the world's population to 5 billion. China becomes a hell, as does North America. The only two somewhat developed places in my game by then? Russia and Latin America.

And warming is still at 2.5 degrees and rising due to methane.

Pffft, gamestop won't even check the damn box they'll have so many returns. I give you one week, two weeks tops. I reckon somewhere around day 3 or 4 my xbox will meet my blender.

You are scoring adequately and I am being generous, console peasant.

Also, Rusty mentioned RO2 earlier in the thread. I has it, I plays it, it's mad decent. I still can't open the in-game server browser without my router thinking I'm being DDOS'd tho, so I have to use the Steam server browser to get in the game.

But yeah, when you're in a good server, like 7th Cavalry's server, and it's full, it's a good time. People actually sort of pay attention to squads, sometimes, and playing as a Commander with competent squad leaders is fucking grand.

"Squad leaders I need artillery targets".
"Got one. Check the map"
"Neat"
-Calls artillery-
-shells rain down like the fist of a vengeful god"
-kill entire squads of germans-
-get all the credit do none of the work-

I'm playing the BF3 beta too! I'm on the 360 though, you?

I was on PC. Been gone for two days, already miss wasting my time chasing silky ribbons.

This is released in a little over a month as well, looking forward to it.

Yeah I'm on a macbook air and am going to renovate my room rather than buy a gaming rig so no PC games for me. :crying:

I suck pretty bad with the automatics in the game, then again they were glitched to shit as it was. I am a badass with the sniper though... can't wait for the full release!

Playing a game of HOI3 as Republican Spain.

I'll tell everyone what ends up happening.

Winning the civil war actually quite easy. The army split, 55-45. I retained a few fighter planes, the fascists got the bombers and most of the navy. I had 3 divisions of militia waiting to deploy, so I plop them down when the war starts. Set objectives, put the AI in attack mode, and I smack Franco around pretty easily. The militia corps being decisive, as the main armies were bogged down near Madrid, their attack from Catalonia flanked the Fascists and gave my regular army the opportunity to pounce.

Loosing 3/4 of the navy is annoying though. :cursing:

Autos used return-to-centre which made them ridiculously easy to control. You were more likely to get a kill by just spraying and praying than using short controlled bursts. Hopefully they'll fix that for the final game.

Snipers were okay, SV98 was fun. Playing Caspian with it was a totally different experience to playing Metro though, compensating for the exaggerated bullet drop takes some skill. I think higher level rifles have better accuracy at longer distances, M98B for one.

Yes. I was used to firing short bursts so that is what I'd always do, only to run into some guy pretty much wasting an entire clip into me for the kill. I heard they are really adjusting the weapons, because they want a more technical and realistic feel unlike in COD, where the winner is basically the one who gets the drop.

I didn't get to play Caspian since I'm on the Xbox, but I enjoyed sniping in metro, especially as a defender. I got into the beta late so the SV98 is as far as I unlocked, but once I got the ballistic zoom scope the bipod I made total destroy. For once, this game has actually allowed me to camouflage well in plain bushes, and those were some great sniping positions to take advantage of.

Jesus Christ, is this like the game of the Venus Project? I feel for you lot, I really do. Looking at it another way the slow n steady environmental side is that supposed to represent the bourgeois and the industrial side Communism? Ideology at work, it's always in video games I tell ya.

The next ARMA game will cover an area of 900km2, playable area of the largest BF3 map isn't even a fraction of that... so yeah, sniping in ARMA games is always a feat.

Both factions are capitalist in nature, the 'Tycoons' and 'Ecos' are both the same faction, but are two separate groups of people... eventually each group gains the other's technology. There will probably be no communist elements to this game, Anno games are generally built on the premise that in order to advance you need to attract different, more affluent classes to your settlements... that's the old Anno games at least, this game may play differently, I'm yet to see.

Arkham City, fuck my life the main story was woefully short, but I like the subtext in it with the camps for criminals and the special execution orders. Though all of this was underdeveloped because as I said the story was really fuckin short. Not to mention they pissed away a perfectly good boss battle by simply killing a character off in a cut scene.

The rest of the game is filled with challenge maps, scavenger hunts, and side missions which while fun is not something I wanted to be doing for 70% of a game.

It's really not worth the $59.99 (an amount of money I wouldn't spend in a non batman or grand theft auto case)

Shooting anyone in that game is a feat. I get into long distance engagements all the time. I remember shooting dudes on the other side of a town with a squad machine gun, and I was aiming into the fucking sky watching the tracers land drop on top of them.

I've been predicting a GTAV announcement this year since round about August... after Rockstar trying to generate some newish GTA hype over the GTAIII 10th anniversary release for phones and shite, last week I was telling folk 'They'll announce the next GTA by the end of the year, could even be by the end of this month'... they have, and it's awesome.

Not playing anything currently, everything's so goddamn boring. Probably for the best since I have tonnes of work to do.

I won't be spending my precious cash on it then;I am trying to only buy the highest anticipated games that have the best content in terms of story and content.

I am waiting for The Darkness 2 and Final Fantasy Versus 13....maybe TES:Skyrim but am unsure since I will be at occupy pretty much the entire time.

Yeah, shooters now days seems to be all about the online play.

Right now I'm playing Deus Ex Human Revolution. I'm amazed how well it is running on my machine. It only meets the minimum specs, but plays with max DX9 settings just fine.

It's hardly something new. The first incarnation of Battlefield was exclusively online, not to mention stuff like Quake III and Unreal Tournament. I'd prefer online-only to something with resources wasted on a shitty campaign, which seems to be more the norm at this point.

True enough. Honestly, I wish developers didn't feel obligated to include both now. There's a place for single-player only and multi-player only. It's gotten kind of dumb at this point.
