Emily Wells is a singer, songwriter, and violinist whose style I suppose could be best described as a combination of classical violin and hip hop rhythms. She was born in Amarillo, Texas and currently lives in new york City. She plays multiple instruments, including: the violin, piano, glockenspiels, and analog synthesizers.
She creates her music by looping individual parts she plays together to get the final product. What sounds like four, five, ten, or twenty people playing is just her. A Symphony played by one person. The one exception to this was her album The Symphonies: Dreams, Memories and Parties. In which she had help from a drummer (Sam Palterman).
When she plays live she doesn't use pre-recorded samples, but rather uses a device that allows he to create loops as she plays. Basically composing the song live.
Her discography since 1999 includes Midori Sour, Music for Geek Love, Making Static (all self released), Beautiful Sleepyhead and the Laughing Yaks (Edub Productions), The Symphonies: Dreams, Memories and Parties, and Dirty EP (Creative Control Records)
