The Socialist Alliance is a confused coalition, more likened to a bastardisation of the greens and the Labor left, who have no mention of anti-capitalism or worker's revolution in their party platform. The Socialist Alternative are middle class uni student sectarian trots who oppose the SA on almost every issue just for the hell of it. And the CPA is a book store with a political front attached.

Basically, I'm pissed off with Australia's "revolutionary" left.

Could any of our Aussie comrades perhaps recommend an actual revolutionary communist party in Australia? Or is the thought of one insane?

NOTE: Please no one mention the Juche Movement Victoria
..please?

Taken from the "about us" section of the SA webpage...

"The Socialist Alliance is an anti-capitalist party, formed in 2001 by eight socialist groups that saw an urgent need for greater left unity to fight attacks on the rights and living conditions of workers and the poor.
The Socialist Alliance stands for socialism - a democratic society run by and for working people, not the greedy, destructive elite that now rules. We put people before profit, the millions before the millionaires. We believe that a society based on this principle is entirely realistic, and necessary if humanity and the planet are to survive."

Taken from the "aims and objectives" section of the "SA constitution"...

"The Socialist Alliance stands candidates to give a voice to working-class struggle, and meet the need for working-class political representation."

"A sustained mass campaign of total opposition to capitalism should aim to create the conditions to bring about a transformation to a socialist society that is based on co-operation, democracy and ecological sustainability."

They have a lot of problems in regards to liberalism within the ranks, that's for sure, but they are definitely, as they say themselves, an anti-capitalist party. Go along to any SA-organised meeting/conference/rally and see for yourself.

(Before you reply, yes I have been involved with them in the past. Work/study schedules have changed that, which is upsetting.)

Why don't you try the Juch... oh.

I was going to link you to the Anarchopedia page (http://en.anarchopedia.org/List_of_Left-Wing_Parties_in_Australia) but it seems someone just failed in updating that one...

So, do you know the Socialist Party (http://www.socialistpartyaustralia.org/)?

Is the CWI Socialist Party not part of either or both the Socialist Alliance or the Socialist Alternative? It has both those names in the UK, how confusing...

However, for non-trots, there's always the World Socialist Party of Australia (companion party of the World Socialist Movement, the SPGB in Britain and the Socialist Party of Canada being the oldest sections of the World Socialist Movement I believe). Then there's the Left Communist discussion circle in Melbourne (I think). And I'm pretty sure there are anarchists in Australia too.

I am not sure if the discussion circle in Melbourne still exists. As far as left-communists in Austrailia, they are a couple of initiatives based in localities such as discussion / readings groups etc, also there is a national network called ICAN. Which the user Nic Rossi is was involved in.

Yeah well, the naming field is pretty crowded. Overlaps happen all the time. But "Socialist Alternative" is a pretty common CWI name (US, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, several Latin-American sections), next to "Socialist Party" (England & Wales, Scotland, Ireland, N-Ireland, Australia).

In the England & Wales specifically there is the electoral committee that ruled that SPEW may not use its name on the ballot as that would "confuse" voters. So instead it runs as "Socialist Alternative".
