Is lame. Every time they present an episode about past wars with Communists the narrator/host uses the word "Communists" to refer to the opposing side EVERY FUCKING TIME. I mean, I wouldn't mind but he just overuses the word and they never refer to Britain or the US as capitalists. It just comes across as a lame attempt to assure everyone that they done nothing wrong, all them damn commies fault. Does anyone else feel this way or am I overreacting?

Yeah, it is a horrible source of history, sort of ironic given the self proclaimed title of the 'history' channel. One would think history to be comprised primarily of pawn shops, obese older men driving trucks across ice, ufo's and nazi's if they were to proportionally apply the amount of time spent on each to their actual significance in regards to history.

Of course your also missing Ancient Astronaut theories and even conspiracy theories on that list which at this point they shouldn't be taken seriously.
Also any form of television programming is unreliable anyways (which is why I don't watch TV).

Considering they host shows like ancient aliens, I'm sure that the last thing that they care about is "history". That being said I haven't found that they were anything special in terms of anti-communists. Pretty much every channel, textbook, and so on is anti-communist, it's just something that we should get used to.

Then it found reality tv and turned to shit. I'm ok with Pickers and Pawn Stars as they do have SOMETHING to do with history. But Mounted in Alaska? Ice Road Truckers? Wtf do they have to do with history? I miss the days of Modern Marvels being played in most of the time slots. *sigh* I also miss the old narrator. Anyone else remember them playing WW2 stuff almost every day of the year?

Yeah, I understand entirely. I grew up with the history channel and its nearly continuous airing of WWII based content. So it sort of made it all the more painful when they started the gutting of the network in the name of ratings.
I don't doubt that it was biased still even in previous years, but at least they were showing actual content of some value.

I recall an episode about how soviet scientists tried to create a half-man, half-ape super soldier. This has strayed from history to Castle Wolfenstein.

I do, I don't know why you're this surprised.
Further, the HC has gone way down hill since I started watching it, as soon as I saw the Larry the Cable Guy show I was like, "done."

I believe there just isn't much of a market for real, in-depth history documentaries. I'm afraid the old History channel had to "whore" itself out to the producers of mindless reality shows just to get ratings and thus, sell more ad space. Think about how dated their history shows are ( when you can still find 'em). They were produced in the 80's or earlier. Some of those british WW2 docs look like they're from the 50's. How often have you seen reruns of " in search of " narrated by Leonard Nimoy? That show was big in 83. Once the workers have the reins, we can produce quality documentaries. History can and should be exciting. I can't wait to see history from a class-conscious workers' perspective.

Let's not forget Nostradamus. That jackass is on there every other week!

A Russian guy I know earlier talked about Soviet TV. Besides sports, news and children's TV, television shows were literally stuff like "7th Grade Zoology," "Learning the Spanish Language," "Popular Science," "Environmental Science," "Gynmastics" (like those fitness TV programs today), a documentary about kolkhoz tractor drivers, classical music, "Lenin's University of Millions" (whatever that was), documentary about birds, a show about animals, and then finally some made-for-TV films, one of them about some Lithuanian guys who went from peasants to workers or something. In addition there were a few communist shows discussing pro-Soviet Marxist-Leninist theory and such. Then the TV station would be off for about an hour or so as all the employees went to lunch.
So yeah, Soviet TV > most anything shown on TV today.
Albanian TV (which got its debut in 1971) was pretty much the same as Soviet TV, only... more limited. And more communism.

The Hitler Channel has died in the name of boring, mediocre shows. Even though the channel use to walk to the beat of a dead horse (Hitler? Hitler! HITLER!), I rather watch a day full of programming around WW2 rather than stomach 30 minutes of "Ice Road Truckers" or "Axe Men"
I haven't watched TV in 2 months though. Fuck it.

The History Channel has always been a depressingly narrow depiction of what history is. Even when it actually showed history programmes they were all about the Nazis, with the occasional show about the medieval period or the Romans. Now it shows very little history at all. One of my favourite programmes that originated from the history channel is The Universe and that is not a history programme! It's just wrong!
