Dear Friends and Comrades,

On July 1st, 50-100 prisoners at Pelican Bay State Prison in Northern California will begin an indefinite hunger strike to protest the tortuous and inhumane conditions of their imprisonment. Pelican Bay is notorious for it's repressive methods of solitary confinement (like the SHU, i.e. Security Housing Unit). The CA Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation prides itself on Pelican Bay being "the end of the line," and is part of a continuation since the 1960's of prisons using solitary confinement as a main tactic to crush rebellion and resistance.

good for them! I hope it works!

This repressive system is glorified and justified by NatGeo in a series about prisons in the US. I have rarely had such a asphexiated feeling by watching television.

I watched that episode too.

Pelican Bay is a bad place.

I attended a Pelican Bay solidarity rally breifly today, before work. Sounds like they are facing horrible conditions, especially considering some of their demands are as simple as adequate nutrition. Some of these prisoners have been in solitary for decades!

Solidarity!

Solidarity. :hammersickle:

I hope they get their demands, I thought the NatGeo episodes were disgusting but informative.

Fuck the bourgeois prison system.
