You could elaborate. Anyway music and politics don't always have to go together, so I'll keep listening to Gaga. Welcome to the forum though.

There's this thing on the internet that Gaga likes Doom (UK crust) and G.I.S.M., which is a punkband from Japan.
I have looked for pics and indeed, you can see her in a leather stud jacket sporting both bandlogo's.
If she's into that kind of music, maybe she's also on the left spectrum of politics.
If so and she's reading this, I have some recommendations for her (provided she doesn't already have their albums):

Aus-Rotten
Wolfbrigade/Wolfpack
Anti-Cimex
Deviated Instinct
Amebix
Axegrinder
Disgust (from the world of no beauty album)
Gastunk
G-Anx
Disfear
Skitsystem
Nasum
Extreme Noise Terror

I know it seems unlikely ZeroNowhere, but on the other hand celebrities are a lot like people in a lot of ways, and if she adheres to leftist ideology the chances are huge she visits revleft. Off course she could never come out and say it in the open and in public, as it would ruin her career among music industry companies.
Do you know if she has ever said anything that might give an idea to where she stands?

No one would care haha. I think I am going to have to agree with you here.
On the other hand, as someone in that other thread mentioned, it would win over a lot of people to leftist causes and theories. Fact is, most people have no idea what we stand for and believe the xenophobic inappropriate tendencies designed to demonize us, while in reality we are the ones with rational thought and empathy. People think the left is a hodge podge of evil empire supporters. The contrary is true. We are the ones standing up for true freedom.

When there would be one celebrity speaking on our behalf, their fans might actually give us some thought so in the end not all is lost.
You could say, in a way, I care.

The bluebloods are capable of death, that's about the only thing they are good at, but their capital lives on, living off our dead labor, vampire like, infinitely reproducing a system of necrophilac horror. The ancient Egyptian ruling class had their pyramids, tombs to the dead which the living were forced to waste their own lives in building, the current ruling class has their banks and finance capital, which we, the living, must spend our lives in reproducing.

NYPost Falls for Gaga/Zizek Hoax

The New York Post appears to have been duped by a ridiculous hoax perpetuated by the so-called Deterritorial Support Grouppppp, an anarchist, seemingly Situationist-inspired collective in London, formed in resistance to the education cuts. In an article titled “Marxist Muse Befriends Gaga,” the Post appears to reference “Zizek/Gaga: Communism Knows No Monster,” a text posted on the site waaaay back in March that purports to be by Slavoj Zizek, in which the philosopher, who often uses examples from pop culture to illustrate various counter-intuitive points, refers to “my good friend Lady Gaga’s theoretical contributions.”

To anyone familiar with Zizek’s work, the post is pretty transparently fake (the anarchist politics implied in it are out of line with Zizek’s particular brand of Marxism, he quotes feminist-vegan philosophers rather than his usual Hegel and Lacan, and it’s not really very funny, to boot). However, the Post breathlessly reports that “[s]ources say Gaga and Slovenian-born Zizek… spent time together discussing feminism and collective human creativity.”

Who are these sources? Not very reliable ones, given the fact that the tabloid has been compelled to append the following quote from the actual Zizek to the end of the item: “I am terribly sorry to disappoint you, but this is all a fake!”http://blogs.artinfo.com/artintheair/2011/06/21/nypost-falls-for-gagazizek-hoax/

Why is she the Whore of Babylon? Is it because she is a woman?

Revelation 17

17:4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Why are you so hateful? I understand if you don't like her music or image but you never gave a reason why she is a "false prophet". Well, I think she's a false prophet and the whore of Babylon because all she does is, well, use a bunch over/easily used "shock" imagery coupled with faux-inspirational and easily relatable lyrics ("blah blah blah relationships suck, blah blah everybody on the dance floor, blah just be yourself") to titilate a mass of people all drunk on a pop culture saturated with instant gratification. Its like aural masturbation, and everyones addicted to it and it makes them stupid.

Thats why I hate her so much. She chose to cash in on our disease rather then use her talents to truly uplift and try to change the pop culture paradigm. Once again, fuck her.

I agree wholeheartedly with Tim here. It's what I was aiming at with my previous post. The one where I said I do and do not care. I do not care about Gaga, I barely know anything about her BUT (and it is a big but) if she is able to convey her leftist (if any, that is) message across the masses on a non-congratorial anti self abusing ride where the unknowing working class proletariat is introduced to SOME form of Marxist thought as a mere beginning, a world can be won.
She has already decriminalised the image arbitrary to the crust scene so if someone were to picket her gigs and hand out info and propaganda to haul people over into the activist scene, it wouldn't be too scary as they (the fans) are used to seeing anarchists of all feathers.

Most of them were all like: nu uh Doom and GISM are ours, not some pop-#####'s (too inflammatory and sexist to re post here) ####-less #### with ####-sticks for a ####. I stood up and accused them of narrow minded ness pointing the finger at their selfgreed in accordance to our music. I calmly told them why they were wrong, with the same arguments as above. They were in awe when they heard me out and now we will be talking to Gaga people soon as we meet them, probing them for what they feel for left causes without actually calling the nature of the beast but simple questions to lead them into common sense and empathy.

Off course Warhol was a dick first class, there is a reason why he was so much hated by radical feminists such as Valerie Solanous, but I do not know enough about Gaga to easily dismiss her like that.
Also, your ''whore of Babylon'' was way out of line. An apology to our female members would be appropriate.

I have trouble assessing my worldview regarding Warhol. I really like art as you all know, and I also really like Warhol's work, which I find somewhat completely unreconcillable with my disgust at his little capitalist industry mimickry at the Factory. Because it's a misogynistic slur, and its deployment as a pejorative, however specific, can only ever sustain misogyny. Same reason it's not acceptable to call any black person, anywhere, a "nigger", no matter how genuinely despicable they may individually have been, or how many black best friends you might claim to have.

First: it's common courtesy apologising belittling one of the ladies.

B: it is a slur meant to perpetuate a powersystem that feeds of the people divided, and a revolutionary should not fall into that clap. By apologising and meaning it, you are making a first step in acknowledging that.

Last but not least: it does not sit well with me, and everyone else.

Four: if you can't, or are not yet ready for it, it means you are not immature enough to partake in anti sexist activism and your whole being on revleft is pointless.

The Whore of Bablyon, or "Mystery, Babylon the Great, the Mother of Prostitutes and Abominations of the Earth," according to most Christian sects, is supposed to represent a counterfeit religious movement that arises during the endtimes to deceive Christians and lead them from the path of Righteousness (or whatever). For someone who refers to herself as "Mother Monster" and "Judas," I thought it was a fitting comparison.

The lyrics and music she makes reach out to the down-trodden and misfits of society, but rather then try and uplift them and encourage them to reach higher grounds of self-esteem, she refers to her fans as "monsters" and tells them "fuck it, we were born this way." It's funny, I think it was in Rolling Stone that I read that she often gets on stage and tells the crowd stuff like "I'm feeling especially slutty tonight."

I only approved this post to highlight how fucking stupid this line of so-called 'reasoning' is. I refuse to accept you were under such an 'impression' at all, and would like it very much if you didn't pollute this forum with such garbage again.

So, you have what, no sense of irony at all? Or just a shrivelled and vestigial one?

You did the right thing. Kudos.

As far as I am aware that term is designed specifically for women, I've never heard it used outside that context. Come to think of it, I wonder if there even is an equivalent for men?

I call men "whores" all the time. Not on RevLeft, obviously, but fuck what patriarchy thinks words should mean.

Anyway, thread subject's music sucks. "Born this way" is an offensive exercise in clap-trapping self-love fervour with which I, a homosexual and materialist, am the opposite of pleased; and many of Gaga's other songs are just about sex and fame and other degenerate pop music tropes.

The term "man-whore" is sometimes used, though usually in a joking way and without the invective that the original word carries.. cuz its cool for men to sleep around apparently ..

Quickest possible way to make yourself like a grumpy old Brezhnevite, that word.

Ah, gotta love self-righteous forum moderators. Which is ironic, considering I was told that my sentiments were the kind of "self-righteous" ones that "turn people off from left-wing politics." Also ironic that the one woman that posted in this thread admitted to using the word "whore" asexually as well. So, in the end, perhaps I do have a sense of irony, just not the haughty, Warholian (see: hipsterish) sense a few of you seem to have.

Also, this.

Fuck, I wish I could've put it that simply.

Enjoy your infraction. Can I point out that there is a zero tolerance line on sexism in this forum.

Anarchrusty

Sam, he apologized so do you really think it's necessary? We are all here to learn, and we all are able to make mistakes. I think it's a bit harsh as he (probably) meant no harm but was just unaware that his statement would be sexist.

I wish you would stop going around all these threads and apologising for sexism.

Anarchrusty

I don't apologise for sexism. I was just stating that he may be learning along the way, just like I do and I am sure others.
I have absolutely no need to be a sexist apologiser. Think you got a wrong impression of me, if so I apologise.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I explained that I was not trying to be sexist in using ONE WORD and it was a mistake and thusly apologized for it. I only received an infraction after I called the forum moderator self-righteous, so this is clearly a personal attack on me and a blatant abuse of moderator power. Now I am the one that would like an apology, Sam, for your utter incompentence and immaturity.

I wasn't the one that gave you the infraction, you idiot. Perhaps look at where these things are logged before you start whining about your 'personal attacks'.

This is not a dig at you, but a helping hand in helping you realise how the system works and how you can topple it by not portraying yourself as a reactionary.

I just want to point out how much I love that this post went:

This is so ass-backwards its not even funny. I already apologized and only attempted to explain my error after my apology was not good enough. And this was viewed as me not "backing down?" Fair enough. Have fun playing revolutionary online guys.

Is this what is called a "rage-quit"? A good deal of colloquial word-usage is totally unacceptable on RevLeft due to certain implications, whether intended by the speaker or not; those whose habit it is to be 'creative' with language must show some degree of restraint to facilitate useful discussion, be considerate of how others react to words, etc.
We need more people who revile pop culture here, and anyway it looks sort of ridiculous quitting after one measly infraction or something.
