The Marxist theory of surplus value applies here, mate. In other words, I guarantee you that whoever's giving you your payola is taking a cut off the top for themselves... Which makes you squarely working class even if you are an advertising shill for the capitalists. Besides, it's not like you're the one who makes the flyers, you're just the lackey they hired to hand them out.

EDIT: I'd just like it noted for the record that just because you like your job doesn't mean you're not exploited.

get this tho, girls get free entry at alot of the clubs this company promotes for, yet i still get £10 for bringing them to the club lol - but i guess the girls bring men with money who spend drinks on them, so that tenner comes from indirect shit

Exactly. They wouldn't pay you to do what you do if they didn't think that it would generate at least 3x the cost of your wage in net revenues... Whether that's a cover charge or the alcohol they sell to these people is pretty irrelevant.

For the record, I've worked in clubs. Ladies' nights aren't for ladies, they're for men. Oh sure, they give all sorts of discounts to women, but that's just a head's up to men... What they're effectively doing is saying, "Hey bruv, there are going to be a bunch of women in the club tonight. You should stop by."

iv seen a club advertised at ladies night in real life lol, places actually do that?

but this club and the other ones are very strict about letting guys in if they arent with girls, so they arent full of men usually

Ahhh cultural differences I suppose. Yeah, here in the States they'll advertise a ladies night with something along the lines of, "Ladies' night! No cover charge and ladies drink free from 7-10 pm!" They don't disallow unaccompanied men, though. Of course, there always winds up being twice as many men as there are women.

Because some of all get paid a lot more to do a lot less boring jobs:lol::lol::lol:

ah man its fucking crazy prices for drinks. For guys its £20 entry but free for girls - which kind of makes my job easier because most guys i know arent paying £20 to get in so i dont have to feel bad about not inviting them as im ment to try and get more girls than guys in. and of course asking girls if they want to go to this club for free (and they get a free meal) is not too hard

flyering for clubs i recon isnt that bad, because i can approach people and talk to them, meet them, maybe see them at the event later etc, rather than handing out international calling cards lol.

Proper bit of bourgeois. Jokes, sounds like my idea of hell though. Not big on clubs nor people, and I love my Doc Martens.

Ah I suppose it's alright if you actually get to talk to people. When I was in London I had a job handing out two for one vouchers for Domino's on the corner of High Holborn. That's about the second worst job I've ever had, the first being London bike courier. NEVER be a bike messenger in London, better to starve imo.

yeah the guys handing out most flyers seem mad depressed. i usually take one of the leaflets because i feel bad lol. I wouldnt really want to do that. The manager i spoke to about it said u have to go up to groups of young gitls and convince them to come to the club, try and get them to remember you etc so u can keep in contact to get them to other events, so sounds fun to me.

whats a bike messenger? what do they do? (im guessing deliver messeges on bikes, but u know)

Exactly what you think they do. They really only exist in large cities... Businesses, law firms, and the like use them when they need documents delivered inside the same city and on the same day.

Nah not for shit mate! Bike is much quicker and you get paid per job not per hour so if you used public transport you wouldn't make enough to survive. I took the job based on the fact that I love riding my bike and I love the city itself. What I found was no matter how good of a cyclist you are, riding in city traffic 5-10 hours a day five days a week will leave you with no energy to want to spend all the money you've been making. Scary too, London drivers are maniacs (although, London cyclists are too), I had more than a few occasions where I genuinely believed I was about to die. Worst of all it made me hate bikes for a good few months after I quit.

I'd reckon that the reason you were spent of energy was because your diet wasn't in check =] How much did bike couriers get payed in London anyway? I'd look into taking that job here in the states, because I'm beginning to dread the management at my construction job.

Most messengers whose job is their only form of income put in well over 100 miles a day, you get used to it if you can stick it out long enough, but I didn't stick it out long enough. I guess I did it for about eight or nine months (including an extreme summer and an even more extreme winter), I did notice it started to become easier after just a few weeks but it's still murder, I reckon after a year or so I would've been ok. My diet is fine but couriers don't really have time to queue up at salad bars, it's usually a case of buying the quickest thing possible and eating it en route to your next destination.

That's not actually the primary reason I quit, I was mostly tired of having a job where I had to rush around all day. Another thing I got sick of was the hygene aspect, when I washed my face after coming home the water was almost always a very deep grey, if you're a clean freak you will not last five minutes! I would probably consider doing this job again if I found myself unemployed but not in London,, never again. Too many crazy drivers, too many idiot tourists who don't look before they step out into the road in front of you, too much checking your map and trying to figure out shortcuts (London is a BIG city, I swear not even people who live there realise just how big it is), and not nearly enough clean air.

As for money, it depends on how hard and long you work, how good you are, and how much work is actually available. For an eight hour day I guess my average was about £70, tax free and in cash of course. I would usually do more than eight hours though, almost always made an effort to start before most others (usually about 6am) so I had lots of jobs to choose from and I would work non stop until about 3pm. Sometime I would do another hour or two starting at about 5pm to catch the last big rush of the day before end of business hours. By doing this I could sometimes make £100 in a day, tax free, and that was more or less a weeks rent for me at the time so it was more than enough to live off and still put some away for savings.

But, again, it depends on how good you are, if you can't keep up you'll struggle to make a living wage, if you're hardcore then you will thrive, that's a guarantee. If you're fearless, don't mind negotiating busy streets and can put up with being absolutely filthy then this is the job for you.

Im looking for an easy job with decent pay, above minimum wage ideally 6-8 p/h, with good hours, and that doesnt involve dealing with customers (no waitering) in london, suggestions/job offers?

Ever do any kitchen work? It's dirty, hot, and occasionally requires late nights, but if you can get yourself on as a line cook the pay will increase pretty quickly. It takes a lot of skill, but if you're any good at all you'll never want for a job... Even if you don't have much experience, you can start as a dishwasher and work your way toward a position as a prep cook or garde manger fairly quickly which will give you a stepping stone to the line... I don't think this necessarily qualifies as "easy," but you'll be hard pressed to get work that pays above minimum wage that is and doesn't require dealing with customers.
