Sad and weird! Not trying to make light of this situation but if it happened to me I would have punched a cop in the face to get free medical treatment.

If the current trend of budget cutting keeps up, an even large amount of people will be in the same boat as him.

I might be in that boat. :(

This saddens me to no end. This is what workers have come to in order to get medical treatment - so much for land of milk and honey. I doubt he's going to do more than a year in prison, because from what I have seen in most states it is the least offensive act of larceny he could've possibly committed. Punching a cop my friend, may land you in jail for 7 years or better, so I'd recommend you re-evaluate your options lol.

Why is it that we will give people who have broken the rules of society or are a danger to society healthcare that honest working people cannot get? This is not to say that those locked up should not recieve it but that it is insane to not give everyone medical care.

From the way I understand it, because it wouldn't make a profit? How dare the working class cost us moneys!!! :glare:

As cuts to benefits and pensions continue, expect to see more of this. Hey, the right-wingers should be happy, at least he took "personal responsibility"!

There's no medical treatment in the morgue.

Just in case a right-winger says the US has the best healthcare you can always use the World Health Organization's chart for reference.

I see that Paraguay is above Uruguay? How comes?

The US is also below a few 3rd world countries. I suspect it's even worse than that list says as things have certainly gotten worse since 2000. I didn't see India on there but India and Thailand are common destinations for "medical tourism" - where getting a certain procedure done is cheaper in that country even when you add the air fare/hotel/etc. And the doctors are just as good - in fact there are a LOT of doctors in my area who came from India and were trained there. And yes, it's true just about everything about the US is fucked up, but health care is one where it's especially so. I suspect if you did a separate list for wealthy/ upper middle class and poor the US would be near the top in the first and much further down for the second. For regular middle class probably about the same place. Dental care would be even worse as employers often don't offer it and it is unaffordable if you don't have insurance if you don't have a lot of money.

I hear that. If one can't afford insulin, one is totally boned...might be worth punching a cop

You could always sell your computer and stop paying for internet, although that would take away from your happiness and if you aren't happy, whats the point, right?

But, I have actually went 2 months without internet to save money (And use very few electronics anymore to save on the electricity bill too) and I have to say, i felt really refreshed and better in that time. I also felt good because I finally had enough money saved up to go to the dentist, and buy some much needed things.

Sorry if this takes away from the main point, any society should provide these things without having to take away the happiness of its citizens. But in our capitalist society we have to make sacrifices, mostly personal ones at that.

Good luck comrade, message me if you need any support!

loosing your internet connection is the equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot. To find a job, to work on your resumee, you need your computer.

I understand where you're coming from, but as dany pointed out, in this day and age I'd just be sort of fucked without it.

Some day, maybe the US will have free healthcare and internet for all! ;)

I've had it since I was 10. Definitely true. Before I was getting Social Security and Medicare I had no insurance, very little income and my Insulin was over $600 for a 3 month supply.

Aye! I use to go to a pharmacy that had government subsidized medicine, so a normal $100 vile would end up costing me $10  But I moved 2 months ago, so I honestly don't know what to do now. I'm setting up an appointment with a local specialist and see if they know what's up. It's so expensive!
(I've had it since I was 7, but only have had to worry about my supply the last 2 years...)

Things may get tougher for you if both of those get slashed soon. Republicans get wet dreams about cutting both of those.
