I will. I wasn't going to buy it anyway, but I will boycott Urban Outfitters.
I may still play "Rasta-Opoly," though, right?

moved this to practice, because thats probably where it belongs.

How disgusting! The description from the article was riddled with just about every stereotype... just needed a fried chicken restaurant...

What is worse is that the creator is planning on rolling out three or four other stereotype-the-African-Americans adaptations of the original Monopoly.

By the way, I actually like Monopoly. I have a version of the game for my vintage '80s Nintendo. I have actually used it as an example of capitalism in discussion--you get rich by bankrupting the other players, very capitalistic.

EDIT: How about Class Struggle, a class conscious adaptation of Monopoly? I have been curious about it--I have never seen a copy, much less ever played it. That would be kinda cool...

All right the moderators can delete this thread because I see it under "Practice." Thank you.

I love to play it, but I don't think a "class struggle" version would work too well

In my very humble oppinion, boycotts are useless. The only capacity we have is the armed struggle. Racist games are a result of capitalism. We can't just 'boycott' capitalism, as we are living in capitalism. We are eating capitalist products, we buy capitalist clothes (be it no - name or expensive well - known products) and we use personal computers that are produced in capitalism. So stop this liberal - left theorist 'boycott' - rubbish, it is useless and reactionary, not revolutionary.

That no communist will play a racist game is pretty clear, though, as true communists have class.

As a smart man (Adorno) once said "There is no right way to live in a wromg live".
I agree to what you said Bianconero, but I wouldn't go to far to cal it reactionary, that's a bit exaggerated, it can actually change things, just remember how Shell was fucked when they wanted to dump their oil platform in the sea, and a big boycot campaign forced them to cancel their plan.

In the states here some time ago, there was also a boycott against Shell gasoline to get them to stop supplying the Aparthied government of South Africa. It brought awareness of the situation there to a much higher level, and Aparthied started falling apart shortly thereafter.

they should make a George Bush-opoly

seriously though, how can you degrade such great men as Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King and expect to get away with it?
this man has serious problems and is probably pretty racist himself

Marxist monopoly is brilliant - you play it with 5 players and you divide the money and property in varying degrees between the players -
Unskilled worker - gets 50 a turn round the board and no property
Skilled worker - gets 100 a turn round and the board and the two poor properties - Old Kent road etc
Lower middle class (teacher) - gets 200 a turn round the board and some mediocre properties
Upper middle class (bureaucrat, laywer) - gets 300 a turn round the board and some decent property
Ruling class - gets 2000 a turn and owns most of the property on the board

You have to make some extra currency to play this version but basically you draw lots to see who plays as who.

You can take out loans from the bank to a certain limit depending on your rank and status with varied interest rates again depending on status.

At first it appears as if the ruling class player will win ... but if the other players group together and work as a collective they can combine their properties and stand some sort of chance against the opposition.

I observed this in a sociology lesson ... the ruling class won and the lower classes got fucked over with the upper middle class being bought out - sounds familiar

I rest my case, Malte. Boycotts can bring little changes, of course. Changes that are in my oppinion not even worth being mentioned. How Shell was seriously 'fucked' I don't know. After all, they still exist, which is everything that matters to me. They don't deserve to exist. They deserve defeat. I see your point, though.

Speaking of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., what about the Rosa Parks boycott?

My politics teacher had a copy of Class Struggle...

Great game to look at and read, but horrible to play. The rules aren't very good, and it wasn't really fun.

The guy who made it is actually asian. He said that he made the game after observing life in the ghetto and that he thought that it would be a good way of bringing people of all races together, which is a bunch of crap. He is making money off of oppressive stereotypes.

Yeah he also made redneckopoly. Why aren't you b!tching about that as bad as you are b!tching about ghettopoly? What is funny to me is how I am probablly the only minority in these boards that actually lives in the ghetto and you rich and middle class white kids are all pissed about it and think you are talking in my behalf.
