So as many of you may know, the 2012 RNC will be held in Tampa, Florida. Being only half an hour away from where I live, I cannot refuse the opportunity to protest. I'm still going to be in school though, my senior year. From experience, does anyone know what days have the largest protest activity? I can only afford to miss one day of school, two at the absolute most. Every RNC/DNC is ALWAYS four days, from Monday-Thursday.
Some groups here in Tampa are already planning some activities, of which I would like to be a part of. For anyone who has ever been to a RNC/DNC, which days will have the largest crowds?

It's just hard to tell you a whole year in advance which days will be the biggest. It usually coincides with specific speeches or portions of the event, so you have to wait for the schedule.

Why would you bother protesting a republican national convention?
Unless your going to be there in support of Ron Paul, who seems to be the only politician on either side that actually opposes the actions of neocons and the actual powerbase made up of bankers and corporate internationalists.

If you live that close to Tampa you should get involved in the organizing end of things. Why just show up to the protest if you can work with local organizers to bring thousands more? They usually need help organizing press, housing, transportation, etc. This is a great opportunity for an up and coming organizer!

Maybe becuase they are a ruling class party and as such deserve to be opposed?

LOL
Ron Paul is a smalltown provincial racist homophobic libertarian conservative.
How is a little shit like him going to oppose anything?

Both conventions for the only two parties sanctioned in the US are tightly scripted, boring as hell, and not really all that significant. Key decisions have been made way in advance and unless you're a C-Span junkie, why bother? As others have said it may be more useful to protest a specific candidate, such as Paul who's ideas only serve to confuse alienated people who are looking for an alternative. Its important to explain why Paul's "ideas" are misleading and dangerous.
The Republicans are vile but in many ways the Dems are far more insidious.
It is possible that the Republicans will allow their large lunatic fringe of religious ultra-conservatives, Tea Parties, and crypto-fascists to dominate the convention, as has happened in the past,in which case at the very least can provide for much comic relief.
