Just got a job doing night shifts packing fruit, for minimum wage. 12 hour shifts. Anyone else packed fruit? What's it like? The last job I had was in a horrible little shop that was a middle class haven so I'm actually looking forward to this

No, never packed fruit in my life. But if you want to make it a competition I packed ceramic tiles all day every day in the summer of 03 for about £3.50 an hour.

you guys had it easy I would sometimes work an 18 hour day from the age of 14 I even had to work x-mass day.

well I worked from 7am until 6pm as a labourer on a building site, 2.40 an hour. the idea is to do a term in a college then work for the year and through the summer. needless to say most people got sick of doing hard labour for that wage and went off to either join the army or do other shit. i went into formal education.

in short, i wouldn't have called myself a student. cheap labour, yes

apprenticeships are a joke here. its cheap labour, on the programme i was on, i only know two that went into carpentry once the 'apprenticeship' finished. the rest went into unemployment, the army or other shitty jobs.

Non-compulsory education is a joke full stop. I tried to study something I am actually interested in, now I lead a team of six migrant workers and walk around with a clipboard.
