View Full Version : I do not have the patience to read books any more!

It has been over two years since I started feeling bored while reading books. I read a couple of pages before my mind wanders away and then I start getting restless and I can't stay in my chair for any longer: I just drop the book, stand up and go do something else. However, listening to audiobooks doesn't bore me and I can still listen to and comprehend an audiobook for hours!
I checked my sight and carried out relevant medical tests, and it turns out that there is no physiological reason for what I am going through.
Any help?
I've experienced the same thing at times.
My suggestion would be just to try to get back into the habit of reading. Set aside some time each day for it (it doesn't have to be a long time, start with half an hour if you're having problems with attention span). Remove all distractions. Turn off the TV and the computer. Once you get into the habit of it, it will come more naturally. It's all too easy to fall victim to the modern malaise of instant gratification. Maybe this could form part of a larger lifestyle change. (I only say that because it did for me, and that process is still ongoing.) Once new habits are formed, I find that they quickly become ingrained.
Also, more importantly, make sure you're reading something you really want to read and that you enjoy. If you're not enjoying it, why do it? A racy novel will be easier to read than a lengthy philosophical treatise, for example. One day, you'll find a book that you're simply unable to put down, and you'll fall in love with reading again.

That's how I read books...I don't see anything wrong with that?

I really don't have any respect for people who don't read books (exceptions: people who are illiterate or are blind) . TV and Internet education is for the lazy.

Download a text to speech program from this company called Acapela Group. It is the best tts I have heard. I consider it an instant audio book maker

Reading good books would help. When I read fiction, it's a struggle for me to stay awake. 1984 put me to sleep several times.

I have a similar thing. Does your mind wander around what you're reading, something related to what you're reading, or does it just go 'if I had synaesthesia, blowjobs would taste like chocolate!'
Anyway, read a couple of paragraphs, let your mind wander for a bit, read another couple of paragraphs.
