What are your thoughts on all of this?

Went over to their forum and watched a few more videos. I don't see much direction in what they're trying to push but it sounds really cool.

Yeah anonymous should be best regarded as a bunch of kids who are against censorship. Its not exactly a revolutionary movement they're trying to build here. And also they have this horrible love for the freedom of speech.

Ah yes, freedom of speech, what a horrible love that is.

Who cares if their not a revolutionary movement, the videos are really interesting and I'm curious to see what their trying to get at with these videos.

My thoughts are that Anonymous has next to no organisation whatsoever (especially IRL, as it exists almost solely on the internet, except when the neckbeards crawl out of their basements once in a blue moon), that it's far from a homogeneous group (with Anonymous simply having originated as the default name of anyone who did not enter a name on a *chan imageboard; "members" of Anonymous - that is, those who actually self-identify with the "organisation" - range from fascist types, to hippy libruhls and any other kind of annoying teenager with no ideology in between. Heck you're bound to find a fair few "anarchists" in there), and that since it does not organise on any sort of class basis it's useless (though anons are quick to jump on the anti-censorship and anti-intellectual-property bandwagons, which is perhaps their only good point).

This is the kind of shit that gives anarchists and POTD a bad name. What is the message here? They are speaking in some kind of sci-fi nonsense with this "phase" bullshit. If they clearly communicated whatever the fuck it is they're trying to do, or took some kind of an anti-capitalist or pro-working class position, they might build some support. As it stands now, it's just some dumbfucks trying to get attention.

To call anything associated with the racist pit known as 4chan "productive" is ridiculous

They wear Guy Fawkes masks (a theocrat) and attempt to be edgy while making actual anti-establishment movements look bad

Why would anyone care what those gitty dipshits who are only in it to feel like they're part of a secret club that has power are doing.

I think he meant they support freedom of speech through blocking website, which is contradictory.

And as a former "member" of anonymous, people think to highly of it. It started out as a meme, then turned into a shock-value (i.e. racism and child porno) script kiddie/hacker loosely coordinated e-movement which considered moralism a bad thing, and now is somewhat a moralist e-movement--still loosely coordinated, and they still largely do it for fun rather than justice.

Anyone can post as anonymous, anyone can upload videos under their banner, etc. It's not even a group. Don't except anything good to come from these angsty teenagers.

Ding ding ding. I roll my eyes whenever news reports classify Anonymous as a "group", when it's really more of a swarm.

I don't expect this to go far, but I won't completely write them off yet.

The scientology protests were rather huge, actually. Too bad they didn't burn the superstitious palaces down.

from what I've seen, most of them don't align themselves with the guys on 4chan. Its still in "phase 1" which is learning and stuff, so we'll have to wait and see what their main goal is

I think Anonymous is very promising actually. But perhaps that's just me...

So what if anonymous can be considered only a swarm? Ants (while in some respects a poor example) are motivated mostly only by idea and principle (protect the queen, get food, etc.), and ants are among the most widely admired organizational types around.

I would in fact consider Anonymous to have ant colony-type behavior, considering that they are largely unmotivated and useless without a goal or leader-type figure, but as with ant pheromones, Anonymous gathers steam almost through bandwagon tactics.

Lack of organization doesn't always ensure inefficacy.
