I was wondering what everyone thinks about the current Communist revolution currently happening in Nepal, just to gauge what everyone thinks about it. Personally, I think it is the most revolutionary event happening at this moment for the International Communist Movement (alongside the People's War in Peru and the People's War in the Philippines). What do you guys think about it?

I agree. I have been following this ever since the slaughter of the royal family, and it is picking up alot of momentum. Unfortunately I find it hard to tell whats really going on there, there are skewed reports that during the strike (instituted by those opposed to the Royal Monarch) it was enforced violently (murderously) by the rebels. I don't know how much truth there is to that though, as generally these revolutionaries have attacked police stations and establishments of the government, beating civilians into compliance doesn't seem like their style.
Over all the revolution wouldn't even be going on if the US and UK weren't giving this dictator more military aid each passing year. These revolutionaries have the full power to dispose this madman, but corrupt powers (thank you first world capitalists) keep this man in power.
I think its pretty obvious why communism hasn't worked thus far, what with all the obsticles these nations place on existing communisms, and existing revolutions.

The claimes that the People's Liberation Army is a bunch of "terrorists" and "murderers" is a bunch of complete bullshit. The masses joyfully support the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and just about half of Nepal is currently under rule by the new revolutionary power. Like I said, check out the links to find out more, especially A World to Win magazine. The current issue is available at http://www.awtw.org/ and it's all about Nepal. Check it out.

I totally support my Maoist Comrades in Nepal, Peru, the Philippines, and world wide.
Maoism is the most powerful revolutionary leftist force on the planet right now. More Communists should study Stalin & Mao so they can understand why that ideology leads to vigorous revolutionary practice and dicipline.

I support their aims, it is the question of method which I question, there is a lack of information coming out of Nepal, I hope that they do acheive victory against the monarchy. To allude to the old cliche, I will support their ends, but I don't exactly know what means they are choosing to take, obviously people's war, but is it unnecessarily violent?
I support the people's war in Nepal somewhat, but I think, on this issue, I will remain third campist until more information is available. And yes, I realise how stupid third campists are, as well as their close cousins the pragmatists.
I would like to say that I fully support the People's war in Nepal, but I don't want to live to regret it like many leftists from the 1970's would regret their support for the Khmer Rouge.

Do you disagree with my opinion on the matter of Nepal? Or am I supposed to type a lengthy paragraph regarding my support of this revolution? If it is the latter, then tough, I do type shorter posts sometimes. Deal with it.

Yeah I do short posts too, it was just a joke, I'm not a massive fan of slogans, but I can deal with it comrade

How will the revolution effect the Buddhist lineage in Nepal?
Ian

Well knowing little about:
1/ The history of Buddhism
2/ The history of Nepal
&
3/ The history of Buddhist lineage in Nepal
I am pretty sure it will have a negative effect from the perspective of the Buddhist clergy, hopefully from the perspective of the common people it will have a very positive influence on the buddhist lineage in Nepal, whether that means a disappearance of it I don't know.

I think that the Nepalese People's Government will definitely work to preserve the heritage and culture of Nepal in a way that is liberating for the masses and still retains the identity of their nationality.

By the "People's War in Peru" you mean the Communist Party of Peru/Shining Path? IMO they are not any kind of revolutionary force.
I know the Nepalese guerillas belong to the same international organization as the Shining Path. The major question, which I don't have enough info to answer definitely, is whether they are the same type of organization, using the same type of Khmer Rouge-like methods.
To answer that definitely would probably take more info than one can get from the capitalist media, or from the Maoists talking about themselves.

Let's give the Nepalese Maoist a chance. I don't like monarchies so I'm waiting to hear what happens.

Saw an article in today's or yesterday's New York Times about the Maoists in Nepal. Naturally, the Times saw them as a bunch of violent, terroristic crazies fighting for a defunct, discredited ideology. The article did grant that the people were not faring well under the monarchy, but hey... communism is bad !
