View Full Version : Protests in Oakland as killer cop Johannes Mehserle released early

This scumbag served 216 days in jail for the execution-style killing of an unarmed man. Justice?
On June 12, a diverse and disciplined march of 500 angry protesters in Oakland, Calif., decried the early release of killer cop Johannes Mehserle. Hours later, at a minute past midnight, Mehserle walked out of Los Angles County Central Jail a free man, managing to sneak out unseen by protesters in the street as well as waiting reporters.
Mehserle, a white former Bay Area Rapid Transit cop, was found guilty on July 8, 2010, of involuntary manslaughter for the Jan. 1, 2009, killing of a 22-year-old unarmed Black man, Oscar Grant. Grant was shot in the back while lying restrained on the platform of the Fruitvale BART station after transit cops pulled him off a train.
Mehserle would likely have gotten away with his crime except that BART passengers had video-recorded the incident on their cell phones, a practice that politicians in California and elsewhere are now moving to make illegal.

All I have to say is that guy's on crack if he thinks he can move back to the East Bay.
A cop avoids justice?!?! Quel suprise. Somehow I doubt he's learned his lesson.

What the fuck are you serious, 216 days in jail for what he did? I can go outside and punch someone in the face randomly and get more than a year, he shoots a man pinned down and handcuffed execution style and gets like 7 months? Man now I'm heated, fuck the USA, we really suck if we can let shit like this happen.

It's well known that police officers in the US and Europe are little more than organized gangs that have legal powers...and like most common lumpenproletarian street gangs, they take care of their own first and above all else.

They're moving to make recording videos of the police illegal? Oh fuck.
The cop being released doesn't particularly surprise me.

No not like last time, screw raiding a foot locker for some new kicks, burn down a police station or two, dish out some violence towards the police or police property for a little bit of justice for Oscar Grant. Is it illegal to say that?

I never got that Foot Locker thing either.
When I said set it off like last time, I meant that the people should go out in the streets and show their anger. How they do it is up to them. ;)

I never understand that about riots in America, at least the ones that have been over police brutality. Like the bs that happened in the 90's in LA, people got angry and rioted but the violence seemed pretty misdirected. I mean it looked like it turned into a huge race war with a lot of people being killed, not one of them being police.
But whatever I can understanding wanting new shoes and shit but I'd also want to throw shit at the line of police standing there after what's happened.

Yeah have you heard about what happened in Detroit(I think)? A girl was getting questioned by the police about what happened during a domestic dispute and a cop groped her. So obviously they're going to make a complaint about that fucking cop but the cops weren't being very responsive. You know how they are when you try to report to them about a cop doing something bad, they try and cover their backs. So the girl grabs out her phone or something and starts recording what's going on and now they're trying to arrest her for like 4 years and make it illegal to videotape the pigs doing their jobs.

I remember the 1992 riots, the anger was directed towards the Korean petty bourgeois small business owners. Sad.

The bad news for the po-po is that there are programs on phones that automatically upload footage to a server online, preserving it in any case of "accidents" that may happen to your phone once the pigs realize that they're being filmed.
As far as the case goes: yes, it is a travesty, but not suprising at all.

Shoes to throw at the cops and corporate buildings?
Anyways...
Fuck tha police
Comin straight from the underground
Young nigga got it bad cuz I'm brown
And not the other color so police think
They have the authority to kill a minority
Fuck that shit, cuz I ain't tha one
For a punk muthafucka with a badge and a gun
To be beatin on, and throwin in jail
We could go toe to toe in the middle of a cell
Fuckin with me cuz I'm a teenager
With a little bit of gold and a pager
Searchin my car, lookin for the product
Thinkin every nigga is sellin narcotics
You'd rather see me in the pen
Then me and Lorenzo rollin in the Benzo
Beat tha police outta shape
And when I'm finished, bring the yellow tape
To tape off the scene of the slaughter
Still can't swallow bread and water
I don't know if they fags or what
Search a nigga down and grabbin his nuts
And on the other hand, without a gun they can't get none
But don't let it be a black and a white one
Cuz they slam ya down to the street top
Black police showin out for the white cop
Ice Cube will swarm
On any muthafucka in a blue uniform
Just cuz I'm from the CPT, punk police are afraid of me
A young nigga on a warpath
And when I'm finished, it's gonna be a bloodbath
Of cops, dyin in LA
Yo Dre, I got somethin to say
Fuck tha police and Ren said it with authority
because the niggaz on the street is a majority.
A gang, is with whoever I'm stepping
and the motherfuckin' weapon
is kept in a stash box, for the so-called law
wishin' Ren was a nigga that they never saw
Lights start flashin behind me
But they're scared of a nigga so they mace me to blind me
But that shit don't work, I just laugh
Because it gives em a hint not to step in my path
To the police I'm sayin fuck you punk
Readin my rights and shit, it's all junk
Pullin out a silly club, so you stand
With a fake assed badge and a gun in your hand
But take off the gun so you can see what's up
And we'll go at it punk, I'ma fuck you up
Make ya think I'm a kick your ass
But drop your gat, and Ren's gonna blast
I'm sneaky as fuck when it comes to crime
But I'm a smoke em now, and not next time
Smoke any muthafucka that sweats me
Or any assho that threatens me
I'm a sniper with a hell of a scope
Takin out a cop or two, they can't cope with me
The muthafuckin villian that's mad
With potential to get bad as fuck
So I'm a turn it around
Put in my clip, yo, and this is the sound
Ya, somethin like that, but it all depends on the size of the gat
Takin out a police would make my day
But a nigga like Ren don't give a fuck to say
I'm tired of the muthafuckin jackin
Sweatin my gang while I'm chillin in the shackin
Shining tha light in my face, and for what
Maybe it's because I kick so much butt
I kick ass, or maybe cuz I blast
On a stupid assed nigga when I'm playin with the trigga
Of any Uzi or an AK
Cuz the police always got somethin stupid to say
They put up my picture with silence
Cuz my identity by itself causes violence
The E with the criminal behavior
Yeah, I'm a gansta, but still I got flavor
Without a gun and a badge, what do ya got?
A sucka in a uniform waitin to get shot,
By me, or another nigga.
and with a gat it don't matter if he's smarter or bigger
[MC Ren: Sidle him, kid, he's from the old school, fool]
And as you all know, E's here to rule
Whenever I'm rollin, keep lookin in the mirror
And there's no cue, yo, so I can hear a
Dumb muthafucka with a gun
And if I'm rollin off the 8, he'll be tha one
That I take out, and then get away
And while I'm drivin off laughin
This is what I'll say
Excuse the homophobic and bourgeois references, this song just sums up my feelings on this shit.

Because, that's not the fucking point of direct action against police brutality.

who are you to say what is and isn't legitmate?
capital's a totality anyway, it's all encompassing. the police do not exist in isolation, businesses don't either, and nor do humans needs and desires which are dictated by the totality. or does footlocker not benefit from the police, would they not prevent someone from breaking the law to obtain said product? it's all related.
plus smashing and looting is awhole lot more interesting when people allow themselves to generalise the issue further than the immediate focus. that's how shit can spread, the phyiscal expression of negation.

They should find out where that pig Mehserle and his family are staying, and make their "time together" a living hell. Oscar Grant's family doesn't have the luxury of holding their loved one, and Mehserle's family shouldn't either.

on the foot locker:
The rally was planned before anyone knew what the verdict would be. There were fliers all over the town saying to meet at 14th and Broadway, and that is what happened. There is a Foot Locker on 14th and Broadway.
The Foot Locker was not a political statement. The riot was a political statement. The foot locker was looted because it was there. The real question is why does the Foot Locker get so much attention, because it was by far not the only business looted that night. It's not like anyone was all SMASH THE TOTALITY STARTING WITH FOOT LOCKER but at the same time we did not have the luxury of knowing what the verdict would be, how many people would show up, what the mood of the people who did show up would be, etc. 14th and Broadway was an arbitrary spot that everybody knows that is in the center of town which is why it went down there.
It also wasn't any kind of unified march or anything at all. After a little bit we broke off into groups of a few hundred and went our separate ways to riot with a diversity of tactics.

Uh, capitalism is the unifying factor, concious or not. No one was suggesting that the participants were thinking 'hey, lets negate that shit!', but for that amount of time, those people were conciously making a break with normaility, meaning deciding to break the laws of the land because they want to. this made the action cease to be a single issue piece, which is why it gets attention, as something more than hating the pigs, it was about taking your life into your own hands, albeit for a small amount of time.
To add, I'd also suggest that the riot was more of an impluse than making a point.

SO they want to illegalise the filming of polcie actions? But i thought that in a working democracy, the police enforces the laws of the people, and the process is controlled by the people. But if the police takes away any means of public regulation over them, its a complete police state, ade democracy...
