I've recently become very interested in socialism and communism as an alternative system of society, I'm in the process of learning as much as I can about it and coming to grips with my own ideas and feelings on it.
I came to be interested in it after the realisation that most "democracies" that we live in (like the one where I am in the UK) give us no real choice or freedom - our government, whoever is in power, doesn't serve the people, it serves itself and those who have the ability to keep it in power. We get to choose between a handful of political parties none of whom have the ability or even the intention to actually improve the lives of the everyday people living and working in society.
I'm also particularly interested in forming an idea of what a true communist society would be like post-revolution and after the withering away of the state, in terms of its day-to-day running and (lack of?) institutions. I haven't come across much writing on this from the authors I've been looking at so far (mostly Marx and Lenin).
It's good to be amongst like-minded people and I hope to make my own contributions here when I've learnt enough to do so! :star3:
