The ANSWER Coalition is sponsoring a nationwide speaking tour featuring former Congressional representative and presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney, who is currently in Libya on her second fact-finding mission, will offer an eyewitness report exposing the truth that has been concealed by the western corporate media.

Also speaking on the tour will be Akbar Muhammad of the Nation of Islam, former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark and Brian Becker, National Coordinator of the ANSWER Coalition.

McKinney and the other speakers will shed light on the devastating impact of the U.S./NATO bombing of Libya and the extensive civilian casualties that the White House, Pentagon and the media have persistently denied. McKinney is currently on her second trip to Libya during the NATO bombing. During her time there, she has visited several hospitals, and has conducted video interviews with doctors and the wounded.

Under the guise of humanitarian intervention and protecting civilians, NATO has carried out a massive bombing of Africa's largest oil producer. McKinney's report shows how devastating the bombing has been for civilians in Tripoli and elsewhere.

I'd stay away simply for the Nation of Islam. Those people are insane. They're like the black equivalant of the Nazi Party or Northwest Front.

I'll be heading to the NYC speaking event. I've seen Ramsey Clark and Brian Becker both speak and they are always great to lisen to. Looking forward to hearing Cynthia McKinney. Hearing someone from NOI speak will also be interesting.. from a rather different point of view.

I'd stay away simply for the Nation of Islam. Those people are insane. They're like the black equivalant of the Nazi Party or Northwest Front.I have blonde eyes and blue hair, I disagree with the moralism and a lot of the other views of the NOI, but the fruit of Islam didn't act towards me when I was doing security with them at the protest against the execution of Tookie Williams with the same hatred and thuggery as the white Nazi gangs did in my hometown growing up. Some FOI members were cold and standoffish at worst. NAZIs wanted to kick the shit out of me (and this was before I was a radical).

At any rate, McKinney is actively apologizing and making excuses for Ghaddafi and I think that's a real problem for the Left and our credibility:

The reason Muammar Qaddafi is a target is because he has been a thorn in the side of anti-revolutionary forces since he took power in Libya, overthrowing the King and nationalizing the oil industry so that the people could benefit from their oil resources. If that's the reason he's a target, why did the west wait until he was their "war on terror" ally and giving up oil contracts to US, Italy and China to attack? McKinney attacks neo-cons, but not Gaddafi who helped them "fight Al Quieda".

I think we need to stand against intervention by US and France and so on, but not with dictators - particularly ones who allied with the imperialists and helped spread their "war on terror" propaganda.

I remember I got punched in the face by a NOI guy because he was calling for the extermination of whites at an antiracist event, and I called him on his hypocrisy.

Cynthia McKinney BEEN a joke, and deserves absolutely nothing but contempt among people who call themselves any kind of leftist. She is a blatant anti-Semite and a disgrace to all that is good. She repeatedly associates herself with white supremacists and anti-Semites. It is clear her opposition to the brutality of Israel results from a hatred of Jews, which she identifies Israel with, rather than concern for "human rights"

Read McKinney blame the financial crisis on "Shadow Money Lenders", which she conveniently names only Jews (with even a reference to the Rothschilds). Her source is a book by Matthias Chang of the same name, which is published by American Free Press which was founded by Holocaust denier Willis Carto:
http://www.gp.org/cynthia/display.php?ID=13

Here is an interview with Chris Hedges, where she names some of the people who she would have no problem working with to affect social change :

“It is time for us to stop talking about right and left,” McKinney told me. “The old political paradigm that serves the interests of the people who put us in this predicament will not be the paradigm that gets us out of this. I am a child of the South. Janet Napolitano tells me I need to be afraid of people who are labeled white supremacists but I was raised around white supremacists. I am not afraid of white supremacists. I am concerned about my own government. The Patriot Act did not come from the white supremacists, it came from the White House and Congress. Citizens United (http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Citizens_United) did not come from white supremacists, it came from the Supreme Court. Our problem is a problem of governance. I am willing to reach across traditional barriers that have been skillfully constructed by people who benefit from the way the system is organized.”
http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/is_america_yearning_for_fascism_20100329/

Here is an article by SPLC talking about her connections with Holocaust deniers in the UK:
http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-report/browse-all-issues/2009/winter/crossing-the-line

Cynthia McKinney is a fucking joke and it is an embarrassment that anyone on this site would quote her approvingly.

Cynthia McKinney went on a fact-finding mission in Libya. She has been doing great work in providing truth to what is going on in Libya.

I find it not surprising that a member of the ISO (who have been alongside staunchly pro-rebel, pro-interventionist types in actually protesting these speaking events) to say that McKinney is 'apologizing' for Gaddafi. Which is absurd. She doesn't need to 'apologize'. The fact remains that Gaddafi is a popular leader.

Anyways, here is a video from the San Francisco event:

For those who are unaware, check out ANSWER Coalition (http://www.answercoalition.org) because we are the strongest anti-Imperialist organization in the U.S. right now and we're really where it's at.

First of all, as a democratic socialist and someone who wants to uphold the values of socialism; participatory democracy, cooperative social relations and democratic organization, no socialist has any business defending Gadaffi. Gaddafi is concerned about his own power. Now sure, he has done a lot with his efforts to unify Africa - which I think is driven by his desire to legitimize his rule not genuinely unify Africa- and is an opponent of AFRICOM- which we should all be opposed to U.S imperialism- we have to be rational about the 'Libya situation.'

NATO should be criticized on its hypocrisy in intervening in Libya, with a rebellion with very ambiguous leaders at its top, while you have dozens of Syrian people being killed for peaceful protesting and its continued support of despots in Bahrain and Yemen. Its quite obvious Libya is about stabilizing the global economy and not genuine humanitarian intervention (there is such thing after all; look up Kosovo). However, we shouldn't defend dictators because they have one or two political positions that fulfill some leftist personal sectarian agendas. Its no secret that McKinney is highly sympathetic towards cultural Black nationalism (reactionary, not revolutionary). If comrade Huey was alive today,he would be appalled that there are so called 'black nationalist' defending people who only want to oppress Africans because they want to fulfill completion of their own ideological/romantic cultural Disneylands.

You support democracy or you don't. There is no democracy in Libya.

]The fact remains that Gaddafi is a popular leader.
*pounch*

It doesnt mater if he is popular or not'...there were a lot of popular leaders who do not deserve our attention and even deserve our scorn. Popular is not something the revolutionary left concerns itself with.

Now...that said... wasn't Gadaffi the leader of a nation which faced massive, massive protests and is now spiralling heavilly into civil war because he is so popular??

Actually, it does matter. It matters a whole hell of a lot.

As much as poor and working class Egyptians hated Hosni Mubarak, in the scope of things, that actually didn't matter, right?

...there were a lot of popular leaders who do not deserve our attention and even deserve our scorn.

Criticize, yes. Scorn, no. We are not Fox News, CNN or the BBC. As leftists, we're not and shouldn't be in the business of attacking popular leaders. That's the bourgeois press's job. We, on the other hand, should be objective and vigorously opposed to imperialism.

Well...Hitler was quite popular in his time. So was Mussolini, Churchill, Lech Walesa and I heard the pope is doing quite well in the polls.

Actually...it doesn''t matter one flying fuck if somebody is popular or not. It matters if (s)he is socialist/communist or anarchist or not. THAT is all that should concern us. NOT if some self styled dictator is popular.

Criticize, yes. Scorn, no. We are not Fox News, CNN or the BBC. As leftists, we're not and shouldn't be in the business of attacking popular leaders.Really? Because I have quite a bit of scorn for the people I mentioned above.

That's the bourgeois press's job. We, on the other hand, should be objective and vigorously opposed to imperialism.Really....because I thought it was our aim to bring about a communist revolution. And since we are having two reactionary imperialist stooges at each others throats here....I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

Attended the event in NYC and it was great. Ramsey Clark and Brian Becker were great speakers as always. Cynthia McKinney was rather social-democratic, i.e. after this event you should "vote" good people in. Despite deep ideological differences with NOI, I enjoyed their speaker, Akbar Muhammad and company. There was a lot of focus on the race issue by the latter two speakers mentioned and not enough on class, but overall..

..a solid event. :thumbup1:

Look forward to seeing other cities added to the tour.

to say that McKinney is 'apologizing' for Gaddafi. Which is absurd. She doesn't need to 'apologize'. The fact remains that Gaddafi is a popular leader.

So do you support her statements about Gaddafi being a friend of all Africans and being progressive? Why is it progressive when he fights Al-Queada for the US? Does being against the Iraq war mean apologizing for Saddam Hussein?

I find it not surprising that a member of the ISO (who have been alongside staunchly pro-rebel, pro-interventionist types in actually protesting these speaking events)

When you don't have a political leg to stand on, innuendo about the people making a criticism is the way to go:rolleyes:. The ISO is against intervention and the ex-Gaddafi regime toadies who have largely taken the reins of the rebellion. At any rate, stop deflecting.

Eyewitness Libya: Cynthia McKinney speaks out against the US/NATO bombings of Tripoli

By Staff

Minneapolis, MN - Cynthia McKinney, former six-term member of the House of Representatives, and Sara Flounders, co-director of the International Action Center, spoke to a packed room of over 60 supporters, July 9, at the Plymouth Congregational Church. Both gave motivating speeches for how the U.S./NATO intervention in Libya is endangering and killing the civilian population and demanded an immediate end to the war on Libya.

President Obama claims U.S. involvement in Libya is not a ‘war,’ but McKinney’s firsthand testimony of the nighttime and daytime bombing of Tripoli, the country’s largest urban center, during her month long stay disputed that claim. She saw missiles fly over her head and heard drones and bombing attacks repeatedly. “The bombing for me, and I was only there for a couple of weeks, takes a psychological toll. If I’m subject to it, imagine the children. That first day of intense bombing took place on the day of national exams for the little kids…The first day of the super intensive bombing they started bombing at 11:30 in the morning and kept on going until 11:30 at night. We counted a total of 89 bombs that day,” McKinney told the audience.

During her stay McKinney had the opportunity to meet with people who were carrying out their everyday lives as an act of resistance to the U.S./NATO bombing campaign. She occupied the plaza in front of Momar Qadafi’s home with thousands of Libyans and Africans who support Qadafi, refuse to leave and are offering themselves as protection from bombing. She met with students who came to the university to take their finals despite the bombing raids because they refused to put their lives on hold because of U.S. imperialism. “They said they were not going to be deterred because of NATO.”

Both McKinney and Flounders addressed the roots of the conflict directly. They argued effectively that the U.S. and NATO are using the civil war as an excuse to carry out regime change in Libya. They articulated that the U.S. and European powers want to install a puppet government so they can control the largest oil reserves in Africa.

Flounders attacked one of President Obama’s main justifications for the war, “He says this war is for humanitarian intervention. This is an excuse. There is not a country in the world that is better off after U.S. warfare. Just ask the people of Yugoslavia, Iraq and Afghanistan!”

This event was a part of the national speaking tour of the Dignity delegation, which was lead by Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney. This tour is playing an important role in giving voice to the Libyan people during a time when an increasing number of Americans are strongly questioning the U.S. role in this conflict while state and federal governments are in debt and cutting needed social services. By a margin of 2-to-1, people in the United States oppose the war in Libya.

The Eyewitness Libya event was co-sponsored by the Minnesota Anti-War Committee, the Emergency Committee to Stop U.S./NATO War on Libya, the Minnesota Peace Action Coalition, the Twin Cities Peace Campaign and Women Against Military Madness.

?????????????!!!!!!!!!!!???????????

George HW Bush had the highest approval rating since George Washington after he invaded Iraq in 1991.

George W Bush had a ridiculously high rating after 9/11...

Need I say anymore in response????
