I like it. I think it's really well written and you bring up terribly valid points. This is a good essay.

Do away with the first person, it weakens the impact of your content and devalues the potency of the piece in general. As this isn't something which really requires personal details or what have you, it doesn't serve much purpose. You could probably lose or at least alter the bit that delves into second person as well.

Beyond those relatively minor issues , I thought your larger points and style of writing were actually quite decent though. I thoroughly enjoyed the variety in language applied to the piece, it made the work into a particularly vivid and readable piece.
