well since i am a big black metal fan, you just come across bands wich music you adore but people behind the music/art you just hate, for whatever reason.

i like burzum quite a lot, and the guy behind burzum is facist/racist and a murderer, yet i cant help to like the music he makes. and i just wanted to know if other users here have some similar cases were they like the music but dislike/hate the artist behind the art.

i apologize if this is bad thread and i also for my english wich isnt to good.

I like Tech N9ne's music a lot even though almost all of his music is sexist.

I used to love Eric Clapton but ever since the whole "Keep Britain white!" incident I find it hard to listen to him.

Frank Zappa: A crypto-conservative and sexist, but often times great musician.

By pretty much all accounts I've read, Lou Reed sounds like a major asshole.

Bob Dylan, but it's more of a "dislike" rather than "hate".

I like all different kinds of music but my favourite classical composer has always been Wagner and yet he was known for being anti-Semitic (and I think he was Hitler's favourite composer as well). Further more, they used Ride of the Valkyries in the soundtrack for Birth of a Nation (ancient black-and-white film glorifying KKK) and now I can't listen to said music without thinking of Ku Klux Klan.

I would answer this, but the line gets blurred, because we can't criticize all great musicians and artists for not being communist revolutionaries. That being said, I listen to a lot of hip hop, and the misogyny and homophobia in a lot of it makes me cringe. And yes. I found this thread by searching Burzum to see if any other leftists listened to him, having just learned of his political leanings today. I still love Burzum's artistry, but it leaves a sour taste in my mouth now.

And wtf, I didn't know Frank Zappa was a conservative. I figured he'd be a leftist.

Well, in his autobiography he calls it practical conservatism. As to what that entails, exactly, I don't know since I read it a long and naive time ago.

Circle Take the Square

a bunch of elitist "rockstars" who are too cool and artistic for you. Fantastic music, terrible attitudes.

I wouldn't call it art, but I have always been a big fan of the hardcore band One Life Crew, no matter how many right wing and []phobic lyrics they have.

Then again, how much of it was serious...

Most of the music I listen is either Christian fundamentalist (like Jamaican music from 60's or later Rastafarai crap), nationalistic/patriotic (Oi!), sexist etc. I don't fucking care about that as long I enjoy music. After all what the hell does Wiggle Waggle mean :D

... how about all non-leftist artists? :D

I really like Chetnik folk music, marches from the 3rd Reich and unfortunately pretty much all hip-hop has been sexist or homophobic except some 70's stuff, leftist stuff and Will Smith :).
Also, to the guy who said Zappa was a crypto-conservative, I'd have to disagree, he's an out-and-proud conservative, although, I think he meant to say vulgar-libertarian, being anti-censorship and socially progressive ect.

Oh, yeah. I love Immortal Technique... who happens to be a homophobe, sexist and partially ethno-centric. Fuuuuuuu
