I'm very sorry to hear that, truly sorry. Don't get angry- try to channel the anger into something positive for the sake of your friend- I don't know, perhaps organise a demonstration outside the town hall to highlight the problem- or write to the mayor. Does your town have facilities to help people with drug related problems?

I have decided that I will buy a cat when I have a new job. Which I don't have yet.

I like cats. Cats are 3vil, egocentric and they don't give a fuck....but they wanna cuddle and you do not have to walk them. Its also mentally and psychologically healthy to have an animal around that you can pet and play with.

So I have decided to buy either one of these:

Abessinians are extremely intelligent and playfull. They love to explore and they can amuse themselves for hours on end with toys. THye are bussybodies an always want to know what the hell is going on and they often outsmart humans.

They will learn to interpret and anticiate human behaviour. They will self-teach tricks to get attention and they require very little grooming maintenance. They do not shed as much ad other cats and they love water.

The downside is that they will destroy things of they get mad, angry or bored....and they are prone to the more expensive diseases. Which sucks because they rarely get sick but when they do you better be prepared to dive into your wallet. They also can not spend too much time alone.

I find this the mosty beautiful and gracefull of all cats.

The Bengal is easilly the more awesome of all the domesticated cats. 4 generations removed from an actual asian leopard cat...it combines the traits of wild and comesticated splendidly.

Its is intelligent, very active, loves acrobatics and develops a genuine mutual bond. They love water require very little coat maintenance and they are sturdy.

They come however with two settings: overactive or extremely docile. They former is more of a problem offcourse. They also tend to grow to anout 1.5 times the size of a standard cat and need a lot of room to frollic...which will be a problem. They tend to destroy things....and their meaow is very loud and piercing.


This cat has a beautiful coat but not (IMO) as beautiful as the Abessynian.



So...now I have to decide. The choice will also influence what house I need to go find.

Ya, we have help around here. He was in and out of detox every month.
I actually handle death quite well... or poorly depending on your view of it. I don't cry, and I think mourning is the wrong approach. I like to celebrate the life the person had, rather than wallow in self-pity that I won't be seeing them anymore.
I don't have the money for permits to have a rally at the courthouse, but that would be a good idea. I think, since I live right near the beach, I will just throw out an FB e-vite and have a little get together down there. :thumbup1:

In Abuja we found them living on the periphery of the city in a shantytown - a group of men, a little girl, three hyenas, four monkeys and a few rock pythons. It turned out that they were a group of itinerant minstrels, performers who used the animals to entertain crowds and sell traditional medicines. The animal handlers were all related to each other and were practising a tradition passed down from generation to generation. I spent eight days travelling with them.


The spectacle caused by this group walking down busy market streets was overwhelming. I tried photographing this but failed, perhaps because I wasn’t interested in their performances. I realised that what I found fascinating was the hybridisation of the urban and the wild, and the paradoxical relationship that the handlers have with their animals - sometimes doting and affectionate, sometimes brutal and cruel. I started looking for situations where these contrasting elements became apparent. I decided to concentrate on portraits. I would go for a walk with one of the performers, often just in the city streets, and, if opportunity presented itself, take a photograph. We travelled around from city to city, often chartering public mini-buses.


I agreed to travel with the animal wranglers to Kanu in the northern part of the country. One of them set out to negotiate a fare with a taxi driver; everyone else, including myself and the hyenas, monkeys and rock pythons, hid in the bushes. When their companion signalled that he had agreed on a fare, the motley troupe of humans and animals leapt out from behind the bushes and jumped into the vehicle. The taxi driver was completely horrified. I sat upfront with a monkey and the driver. He drove like an absolute maniac. At one stage the monkey was terrified by his driving. It grabbed hold of my leg and stared into my eyes. I could see its fear.


Two years later I decided to go back to Nigeria. The project felt unresolved and I was ready to engage with the group again. I look back at the notebooks I had kept while with them. The words ‘dominance’, ‘codependence’ and ‘submission’ kept appearing. These pictures depict much more than an exotic group of travelling performers in West Africa. The motifs that linger are the fraught relationships we have with ourselves, with animals and with nature.

Ok...so...last Rc I told you about this game we are playing....and the last challenge that was issued. As I said it basically comes down to opposing goals which we need to frustrate and reach....the outcome of this assignment will determine the winner who then gets a sizeable contribution to wards his or her gym membership.

My assignment is to get this girl to go out on a date with me....not necessarilly a romantic date...but we need to spend a whole day and evening together...she has to give me a kiss on the cheeck and she needs to be positive about the whole thing to the group. I do not know her assignment. Now...this may seem easy enough. Be she and I don't get along. Or...better we dislike each other completely....hate is a strong word...but things come close.

So basically my assignment comes down to getting a girl that totally dislikes me to like me....not in the romantic way. Which sucks...because it means I have to get over my own dislike for her. And that isn't working so well since during the last two weeks...we have been going back and forth and getting into each others hair.

There are only two weeks left.


So here is an update.

Last week I discovered she really likes wine. She knows a lot about wine and she is really into that stuff. So I managed to get one of the people I knew from before from work, who collects wines (don't ask) to throw a wine taste afternoon from his private collection which I am told is quite good and exclusive....he invited me and a date.


This was step one and it took me quite some effort. Basically the wine-guy wants to do bussiness with somebody I know. He has been pestering me to arrange an introduction. And I slyly suggested that there would be no better situation to get to know each other and talk bussiness in a very relaxed and unforced atmosphere...such as a wine tasting. He thought the idea was excellent.

In the mean time I was playing the other guy as well....I know he is looking for a bussiness partner and well...I talked wine-guy up a bit. And I said I thought I might convince the wine-guy to agree to a meet and greet...but...that it would require me some effort...so in exchange I needed something from him...like reservations and an account at a nice restaurant with a good chef...which normally would take a while to obtain.

So now...set the wheel of connectivity, fovoritism and networking in motion. Cappies are extremely predictable....never do ANYthing without getting something back!!!

And low and behold...I get the desired reservation including a hefty discount at the restaurant I desire to go to....and I get a wine tastery....for the same day :)


Now step two of the plan have already been set in motion. I have asked her best friend who is also in my group to assist me (we can do that). I have asked her out, in the ear shot of the girl for this excellent wine tastery followed by a dinner. And she naturally said yes...and we discussed about the wines and she "confessed" she knew nothig about wines, really didn't like wine but thought it would be a splendid joke to play the rich guys and get totally wasted at their expense.

This naturally annoyed the girl I do have to date. And as a fervent wine lover she was totally pissed about the prospects of fine wines being happilly gulped down by some wine hater who only wanted to get drunk cheaply. The annoyance mixed with a bit of jealousy was...well...priceless. :-)

Part three is that when we three are together tomorrow or the day after tomorrow that the friend will cancel....so now I am left with this big emergency of having nobody to go with to this wine tastery with such exclusive and nice wines...what ever will I have to do?

The general idea is to let her suggest she likes wines. In that way I can act really surprised...and say I have to think about taking her. Or...if that doesn't work I can mention it myself.

The "plan" I mentioned earlier worked like a charm.

Firend started a huge argument with me being completely unfair against me (aqn also all part of the plan) and said I could shove the wine tasting tickets where the sun don't shine (nice touch) and walked away leaving me with the girl I have to spend a day with.

So...after ten quiet minutes she asked me if I had any idea how I was going to solve it. And I said no...not on such short notice. And I didn't know anybody who liked wine :rolleyes:

So we had a short chat...exchanging comments about the weather; sports agenda etc. And finally she said she liked wine a lot.

So I said to her that we don't really get along and that it was a whole day deal...with dinner and cocktails after. And that I thought she couldn't stand me even if I asked her to come with her...much less that I could stand her. But that I would think about it.

So we stopped talking and after a short silnece she asked what kind of day ikt would be. So I told her and she suggested that since she knew a lot about wine that it might be a good idea to bring somebody who could impress my contacts. (like I give a fuck if they are impressed or not)...and that she had a car.

So I told her we still had to do the assignments and that this would interfere with it and she argued we still had two weeks.

So yeah...hook line and sinker and she even thinks it is her idea. ;)

Well.....today I was told by the pretty 20 year old girl behind the bar...commenting on somebody who had his 30th birthday yesterday:

Don't see this movie....not kidding. Its worse than the trailer. Don;t even bother to download it. Each and every actor in that movie should be summarilly executed, then quartered, their heads put on spikes and put on display....just out of principle and as a friendly warning to not create such shite. Also the producers, scriptwriters, directors should be publically humiliated and be crucified on the road to the Hollywood sign.
We should collect every copy of that movie...whe should dig a huge pit in a dessert somehwere and set it all on fire and slowely roast the CEO's and staff of the production company above it.

As for Greece- well most of Southern Italy was Greek culturally and there are still some places where they speak a dialect of Greek- although it's dying out, sadly. The Romans conquered Greece, but when Greece was already past her glory years, but the impact of Greek culture on the Roman world was enormous, the saying is something like Rome conquered the lands of Greece and Greece conquered the minds of Rome....

O yes, they are wasps. :)

I had a waspsnest right above my window. And every evening dozens of them came into my room. The owner of the apartment complex didnt do anything claiming that I was exaggerating and that it wasn't that much of a problem.

So every night I killed about a dozen of them during the months they were active. I have been stung by the f*** more times than I can remember.

I saved all the bodies as well....when I had about 700 of them I went to the apartment owner and threw the pile of dead wasps on his desk. :)
