So I saw this thread in the history forum, and I thought it was going to be about Star Wars, instead it was about Spain ().
This one is about Star Wars and I had to come to the conclusion that the Rebels were basically a reactionary force. Luke is a small land owner of a moisture farm on Tatooine (basically a Kulak), Hans Solo is petite-bourgeois, owning his means of production (the Millenium Falcon) and exploiting foreign labour (Chewie cannot be getting a good deal for what he risks). Lea is a princess, enough said.
Vader instead is the original rebel, tearing down the facade of the sham bourgeois Republic, uniting the disparate people of the Galaxy, regardless of race or culture, into one great project.
The Rebels basically hijack the cause of national liberation to advance the cause of capital. This makes the Ewoks of Endor the equivalent of the afghan mujhadeen.
Am I serious? Completely.

You have the Empire all mixed up. Vader is like Himmler, the Emperor is like Hitler. I mean they go around enslaving people's with a group that are called stormtroopers for fucks sake. And have you seen the outfits, yeah they're freaking Nazis

Godwins law. Thread is officially dead.
i mean george lucas has never exactly been quiet about the fact the empire = nazis.
to the op, how do you get "national liberation" from destroying (primitive) democratic organs and installing a totalitarian dictatorship that enslaves or destroys entire worlds and is openly specieist?

Like bcbm said it's not really a secret that Lucas modeled the Empire after the likes of the Nazis, so it's not really breaking Godwins law. We can have debates about the Rebel's but it's pretty much set in stone that the Empire=Nazis. As for the Rebel Alliance I've always seem them as petite-bourgoeis and the whole series is like an romanticized version of the small business people type rebelling against the dictatorship who was supported by the big business/corporations and thugs. Best example of this would be when Han and the gang land on that city in the sky(forgot the name of it damnit) and they meet Lando and he just sits there and complains about how the Empire is putting pressure on his business(and how he has to put up with "labor disputes") while giving them the tour.

fucking star wars losers...
this thread is now about star trek, which has much more political depth
class was abolished in the federation, so there is no class basis for the federation or maquis, who were just pissed off about their colonized worlds being given to cardassians and came from all strata of federation life from colonists to officers

The Federation shouldn't have abandoned the colonists to Cardassian Imperialism. It was inevitable that a resistance would come into existence to defend themselves and for the Federation to help out the Cardassians in fighting the Maquis was traitorous.
DS9 kicks ass btw
