I don't get it, why are so many people on YouTube hating on this song? Are grime fans sensitive to gangsta rap lyrics themes or something? The song didn't seem that violent.

There seems to be a lot of controversy in Britain about the violent lyrics of Grime and I don't understand why now a days why that would be controversial, it's not even that violent. Was gangsta rap never popular in Britain so the violent rap lyrics are something new to Britain or something?

no because its not

we have UK Hip Hop, its very different than Grime.

Grime came out of garage. it was influenced by hip hop, but it was also influeced by dancehall - no one calls it the london version of dancehall

When Grime first started to become distinct to Garage music in the early 2000s, no one was sure what to call it yet. But NO ONE thought to call it UK Hip Hop
The problem of what to call it is shown in this song

when grime was actually popular and was getting criticised i think alot of it had to do with the fact that grime was centred around raves etc, which people would go to and there was often violence there, including from the MCs themselve to eachother

no one really criticises grime now tho because most kids dont listen to grime, and judging from the last time i saw a grime MC perform, its more of a hipster scene now, so not much violence

when violent lyrics in UK music get criticised, i think its more to do with the fact tthat the people saying these lyrics live a short bus ride or tube journey from the critics. In london the "bad" areas are dotted inbetween "good" areas, rather than a strict segregation like in america. so alot of people were probably less comfortable with hearing what is basicaly a kid who they might walk past on the street talk violence, then someone from the distant lands of Compton

i can talk UK music for days brah

Uk hip hop has great beats and well produced, but lyrically its mostly awful.
