What is most likely to be applied in our western countries after representative democracy?

Direct democracy (capitalism)

or

Socialism

I don't really know how direct democracy would work under capitalism, unless you restricted peoples ability to vote or have a very violent system that would prevent people from voting in a way that would be against the interests of the capitalist.

In this world you can either have dictatorship of the market or dictatorship of the proletariat, and a clue: we live in one of those.... This is of course a little blunt and a little wrong, but essentially correct.

I think direct democracy under capitalism would most likely be restricted as well. People aren't going to vote for tax increases.

It would probably allow to vote on matters such as the JSF, aiding in wars, liberalization of state companies, etc.

It'd be semi-direct democracy.

Direct democracy cannot exist under capitalism. Direct democracy involves the popular control of all central institutions and capitalism is the private control of the means of production which are central institutions.
Either they both come at the same time, or socialism comes first and then as the state withers direct democracy comes.

Direct democracy and capitalism are not compatible so that eliminates that option and Western countries would be sick of capitalism and would there for be attracted to socialism

What if I think it would be direct democracy in a socialist system? (since I don't think it is even possible with a capitalist one)
