Straight from the state that brought you three-two beer, state sanctioned homophobia and coerced marriage of minors to middle aged men, we bring you this little gem. (source (http://www.imperfectparent.com/topics/2011/06/06/man-pays-disputed-medical-bill-with-2500-pennies-fined-140/))
A man from Utah reportedly got creative when it came time to pay a disputed medical bill last week in the form of 2,500 pennies.
The 38 year-old Jason West arrived at the Basin Clinic regarding an overdue bill of $25, according to police. West apparently did not feel he should have to pay the clinic the money.
Of the incident, the assistant police chief said, “After asking if they accepted cash, West dumped 2,500 pennies onto the counter and demanded that they count it. The pennies were strewn about the counter and the floor.”
West walked out as clinic staff said they were about to call the cops. The ordeal made staffers upset said police and that West’s actions were of “no legitimate purpose.”
Officers later ticketed West for disorderly conduct. The charge carries a maximum fine of $140, or 14000 pennies, and the case will go to Vernal City Justice Court.
My guess is his biggest mistake was that he forgot to wear his magic underpants (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_garment), otherwise I'm sure he'd have gotten away with it.
