Myth: Hitler was a leftist (http://home.att.net/~Resurgence/L-hitler.htm)

This site debunks the idea that Hitler was anything but a far right wing lunatic.

Just goes to show the labels of "left" and "right" aren't adequate to describe political beliefs. I'm a libertarian and to me Hitler is just another case of what happens when government grows too large and too powerful. From my point of view there isn't any difference between a Hitler or a Stalin or a Hussein (Saddam). Concentrated power is always evil.

Your use of myth is highly uneducated and shows the lack of trust in that word that our society has.

Myths are stories that have credibilitiy and authority to those who believe them, such as a physicist and his laws of science.

Um... I know this is different, but when I was younger (like, 6, 7, 8 years old), they taught us that Hitler was Socialist or Communist, basically to convince us that communism and socialism were evil.

Well done, you know what 'myth' means. Now look up 'pedantic'.

You'd have to be NUMB to say Hitler was a Socialist, or for that matter Communist. Hilter himself wanted a privatised, industrialised state. He was active in knocking down socialist supporters and destroying unions in Germany. The Jews themselves were leading socialism in germany at this time...hummm, funny thing..Maybe thats one of the reasons why hitler hated them so much...besides his "illogical race issue".

HITLER AND NAZISM = FASCISM = EXTREME RIGHT WINGER CRAP!

The incorrect use of 'myth' is is just bad as calling hitler a socialist, and is hardly pedantic. It is a metheod for the dominant culture to discredit and assimilate minor ones!

The Enabling Act 1933

THe opening session of the last Reichstag took place in the Kroll Opera House, situated on the Tiergarten in central Berlin, for the Reichstag building had been destroyed by fire a few weeks previously. Inside the hall a huge swastika flag hung behind the platform occupied by the cabinet and President of the Reichstag. Only one item lay before the Reichstag: an Enabling Law, giving the Chancellor the power to issue laws without the approval of the Reichstag, even where they deviated from the constitution.Frowning intensely, Hitler read his declaration with an unusual self-possession. In the reply, the socialist Otto Wels courageously invoked the 'principles of humanity and justice, of freedom and socialism'. Yet the french Ambassador remembered that he spoke with the air of a beaten child. His voice choking with emotion, Wels concluded by expressing best wishes to those already filling concentration camps and prisons. Hitler responded by accusing socialists of having presecuted thr Nazis for 14 years. The Socialists heckled, but stormtroopers behind them hissed 'you'll be strung up today'

The Enabling LAw was passed by 444 votes against the 94 of the socialists. It destroyed the rule of law and in practice licensed the Nazis to act as they saw fit, in the 'higher interests of the German poeple', against anyone deemed to be an enemy of the Reich.

Well to be honest, that is the first thing I hear about anyone claiming Hitler to be a leftist. Everyone knows that he was a right winger, a extreme one to be correct. I have never been taught otherwise and who claims he is a lefty just because the name of his party is a dumbass. He took over the party and gave it a total other meaning and sure he had the working people after him but what has that to do with his political views ???

i think the confusion arises from people often reffering to hitler as a 'nationalistic socialist'- which is clearly very contradictory.
