Story time - My father once saw Jefferson Airplane live... Apparently, he was enthralled by both opening acts, Richie Havens (one of the best folk singers EVAR) and The James Gang (who put an exclamation point on their performance when Wild Man Joe Walsh chucked his axe through his amplifier causing it to explode and shower sparks all over the crowd). Airplane, however, got chased off the stage by boos and flying chairs because they were absolutely awful... Grace Slick was so drunk she could hardly stand and definitely not carry a tune and the rest sounded like shit anyway.

The best bands always play first. Ending act is for losers. From 2004-2006 I held this theory very high because our scene ruled that way.

Sparks showered over the crowd? Awesome!

Yea and nay, in my experience. I'm reminded of when I went to see Helmet back in the spring/summer of '97. They were the opening act for Korn of all fucking people, but Limp Bizkit (6 months before their first album dropped and who suck ass live, btw) opened for the two of them.

Yeah, the old man said he suspected some pyrotechnics were involved but that it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen at the time... it was the first time he'd ever seen somebody thrash their gear onstage (and I suspect he was super high at the time anyway). Incidentally, that show was in your neck of the woods. He was a longhair student over at Miami and went to see the show down in Cincy.

Well, he is a musical genius, the Mozart of our times.

Bleh, I despise most of Mozart's pieces.
