Today we had elections here in Portugal and as expected the left was ousted.
THe "social democrats" ,that are neo liberals, won my large majority and will probably allie to CDS neo liberals and creat the most right wing government Portugal had in last 30 years.
The "socialists" had a crushing defeat.
Left block almost disapeared.
Communist party held it's votes:)

The not so bad side of it:
Communist party had 20% of votes in 4 districts (maybe best results in west europe?)
And the nationalists had 0.2 % of votes:thumbup1:
I'll post official results later.

That sucks. You'd think they'd follow the path of the other southern European countries.

I think all over europe people punished the parties in power and the social democrats took advantage of that.
BE needs to turn left or make way for a force that can. Two reports from the latest BE convention: Portuguese Left Bloc dragged to the right at convention (http://www.socialistworld.net/doc/5068)

As for the ousting of the PS it's no different than what happened in Spain. There is not yet a force on the left powerfull enough to build an alternative force capable of taking power at the ballots and in the streets.

I think BE's leader is a very bright guy but he lacks charisma and was punished for that.
Also, PCTP (communist party of the portuguese workers) got arround 1,1 % wich is a good growth for a small party with no media coverage. PCTP is really hardcore marxist-leninist party. I think maybe the most hardcore in west europe.

They supposed to be lefties.
We can make a paralel to greek politics that are known by more people.
PS resembles to PASOK, both should be socialist but are traitors.
PCP is the equivalent of KKE.
Syriza of BE.

Why do you think the PCP didnt manage to get bigger?
edit: OK Im confused. PCP got 7.83% or less than 3%? And BE got 5.06 or 3.8%?

Why do you think the PCP didnt manage to get bigger?
They always have arround 9%.
Their votes are concentrated in Alentejo (they have great results there) and is difficult for them to spread to northern Portugal.
They have some trouble with the stalinist and pro USSR image that holds back some voters. I also think they are too hardline in questions like drugs, abortion and homosexuality they could have more open positions to get the BE votes after BE dies next elections.
They dindt count all votes yet but so far is:
PCP ~8% and 388.000 votes- 10 members elected
BE ~5 % 251.000 votes- 4 members elected.

I have to tell you that seriously, I think Portugal is next to Greece the best hope we fuckin got in Europe. Now listen...
KKE in the last national elections lost many votes. After many elections that used to get bigger and bigger, it got weaker. I dont know the effect this "real democracy noT" movement it will have to it, but up until 2 weeks ago, it almost reaced 14%(after the 8% they got in 09). I think this type of parties are what the people will choose when shit will really go down, since they are the most radical and the most trust worthy since they are against opportunism(as opposed to SYRIZA or Block). If I m not mistaken, PCTP is like our KKE m-l. Which is fuckin great news that it managed to get 1.13%! Well done. Stop bothering with the opportunists, organise the struggle. We are right next to you.

So, to some up the current results:
PCP - hold at almost exact same level
BE - loss of about half of their vote
PCTP - some small gains, but from a low starting point

Thats what I tought too. It seems there are many opportunists when the sitaution goes bad but PCP and KKE were always there, even trough dictatorships both fought.
Now I hope portuguese powerfull trade unions make some big strikes and demonstrations.
PS: The guy that was elected prime minister of Portugal finished his degree with 37 years old, he had never worked and he started as a top CEO in a company owned by an important PSD member. Now he wants to destroy laws that protect workers.
That shows portuguese politics honesty.

This defeat of BE was to be expected, like it was expected for Synasipismos. Tailing the PS (in the presidential ellections), an unrooted/unstable electoral base, and an indecisive oppertunist program in times of action didnt pay off apperantly. The PCP however remained stable and even made a decent increase, but also partly due to the lower voting turnout.
the "maoist" PCTP is still clogging up the ballot like the CIA stooges they always were (they have virtually no activity outside the ellections, and they have a dodgy history stemming from the false flag tactics of the cold war). My judging of them is not over petty sectarian bullshit, but most portuguese know they are just a potemkin party to break the PCP. They even used the EXACT same slogan as the PCP this ellection, just to confuse their voters.
My dad is a PS voter, but apperantly he didnt bother to vote this time.. should just have filled in the ballot for him when i look back at it.
Just proves consistency and mass rooting always wins over short term support.

I see that the PNR (fascist) got a very small increase too, lol.
Funny story how they came to existance. They are a combination of small extreme-right sects that wanted to "rebuild the right" but had problems registering for the ellections because of the anti-fascist clauses in the portuguese constitution. To evade that, they all joined some dying old small social-democratic'ish sect. Waited until it almost died out, bought of their debts, and then show up with a majority at their congres to change their constitution into a fascist one . Sneaky bastards
I also think they are too hardline in questions like drugs, abortion and homosexuality they could have more open positions to get the BE votes after BE dies next elections.
What makes you say that? The PCP isnt against abortion and homosexuality (quite the opposite), and they hold quite a liberal soft-drugs policy (check out the artificial lake at festa do avante if you dont believe me. I mean they even sell bongs at the festival)

Oh trust me, this is no big win for the right, since his wife is multiracial and nothing throws them into fits of ignorant crybaby hatred worse than that.

Btw, didnt the Block and PCP supposed to create a front or smth?
LewisQ

It was proposed but rejected at their recent conference, I believe (the opposition to the front was led by the leadership).

GO there to laugh at the fascists (PNR) results.
They are small, but, contrary to the left, they grew. And so I don't find their results funny at all.

The situation is complicated. The PSD and CDS are going to start making health paid, and many other things because of the financial ''help''.
The president of the Republic is PSD and now the prime minister is too. Hehe  It keeps sinking
Out of all the voters, around 45% didn't vote
