I'm an Aussie.

Welcome to the forum!

Why are you disgruntled exactly?

I haven't forgotten 13 years of Howard, or the fact that the Libs will implement full blown work choices once they get in.

I'm not happy at the moment, but it's been worse.

The Aussie political climate? Well I may not know a lot about it but Islamophobia is rife. I remember that poor burqa clad woman from a few months ago that was stoped by a police bastard and he tried to rip her face covering off. It was all caught on camera but the case was dismissed completely by a racist judge so she sought help from her community. Next thing you know it's all over the papers that she was supported by terrorists. You know what made them decide they were? Coz they wore fucking beards! For fuck sake, shit like this makes me foam at the mouth.

I only have one activist friend dow under, but I remember clearly she emailed me of an action she was part off. It was a racist mural artist who drew a ''No burqa'' sign on his house who was offended that the left community in complete harmony with the local muslim population protested at his house and painted over his insulting ''work'' and moaned about people shouting at him. LOL!!! He was *****ing about freedom of expression.
Tell you what, mate. Freedom of expression is rendered useless as soon as you use it to make a racist statement about Pakistani people in burqa's and ends right there.

I was proud of her for standing up and would've done the same thing.

What I have noticed is this.

The fear generated by the symbolism of the 9/11 events, and the fear that George W Bush's American administration fanned in order to exploit his Warmongering lusts for an Iraq war...and the political propaganda that grew up around that has directly infected Australia.

Howard didn't even question our call to War. He clicked his boots together and we obeyed our masters.

The Right Wing in Australia was already racist/xenophobic/disgruntled and didn't need any excuse, they simply lapped all this up like a dog eating steak. Now they use the new Islamophobia to keep themselves busy. The hate they have is an end in itself. Hate is it's own reward.

The majority of the Islamophobists don't know what Islam is about, and often time Lebanese immigrants who are Christian are considered Muslim. It's a shocking display of knuckle dragging Wingnuttery.

Then again we've never been a clever country.
