View Full Version : How do we help Palestine.

Viva Revolution!
3rd June 2011, 22:24
What would you say were the best ways of helping Palestine? Because, as most of us are aware, Israel often stops the UN and other organisations, as well as trade from being delivered to the Palestinian people. So I'm not keen to offer resources to an organisation that potentially won't reach the Palestinian people. And I can't afford to personally to Palestine. Any suggestions how we can make a difference?

I have made humanitarian works for Palestine last 25 years. Mine last campaing "Operation teddy bears to kids in Gaza" just ended but here are some other ideas:

With the ongoing atrocities that are being committed daily in Palestine,
there is a resounding voice of anger and desperation echoing world-wide, as
people search for a way to provide any relief to those who are centered in
the suffering. People are in search of ways to channel this anger.

With the emergence of the internet, and as technology makes our world
smaller every day, new and creative ways to help and aid Palestinians emerge
as well. The following is a list of things people can do to show solidarity
and support. While many are quite simple, they have proven to be very
effective.

1. Write letters everyday. If you have access to e-mail, you can send
multiple newspapers the same letter and save time. The pro-Palestine voice
needs to be heard and believe me; it makes a big difference to send just one
letter a day expressing your thoughts about the media's role or an article
that was recently published in the newspaper. Check out
http://www.pmwatch.org/pmw/main.html (http://www.pmwatch.org/pmw/main.html) as a tool that has a comprehensive list
of e-mail addresses and action items.

2. Boycott ALL Israeli products. Make sure that you read every label of
every product you buy. Also, boycott all American made products or services
whose companies support the economy of Israel. Two excellent websites that
contain lists of companies and products to avoid are
http://www.boycottisraeligoods.org/index.php (http://www.boycottisraeligoods.org/index.php) and
http://www.inminds.co.uk/index.html (http://www.inminds.co.uk/index.html)

3. Volunteer for Palestine no matter where you live. Volunteer your time to
different groups in your area. This information can be obtained from within
the Arab and Moslem communities. Websites such as Al-awda
http://al-awda.org/index.htm (http://al-awda.org/index.htm) , Palestine Solidarity Campaign
http://www.palestinecampaign.org/ (http://www.palestinecampaign.org/) , and http://palestinechronicle.com/ (http://palestinechronicle.com/) have
lists of activities and a calendar of events

4. Donate money to Palestine. If you can not afford it, sell cookies and
send the profit to a charitable organization. Palestine needs our support
now more than ever and we can not let her down. Attend fundraisers, sell
t-shirts, do something.

5. Learn the history of Palestine inside and out. Make sure there is no
doubt in your mind about the truth so that you can respond to any discussion
taking place. Also, if you have non-Arab friends, talk to them, convince

them and show them how biased the American media and governments are.

6. Join rallies in support of Palestine. Make signs, express yourself.
Invite the media.

7. Let everyone know that Arabs are Semites too! We are not being
anti-Semitic but pro-justice.

8. Join ADC (American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee)
http://www.adc.org/ (http://www.adc.org/) They are doing a superb job being the voices of the
millions of Arabs and defending our rights. They also have excellent
resources on their website such as Debunking 6 common Israeli myths .

9. Explain to people the difference between the American fight against
terror and what the Israeli government is doing to the original inhabitants
of Palestine. It is not the same fight and never will be as we all know
Israel is an occupying force.

10. Sign every petition that comes your way that you agree with. The
internet has paved the road for our voices to be heard. Don't be afraid to
join the fight and list your name for the fight for a free Palestine.

11. Distinguish between those who are Jewish and those Israelis who are
against Palestine. This is not a fight against the Jewish people. On the
contrary, we need to thank those of the Jewish faith and those who are
Israelis that have supported our cause and even fought our fight. Gush
Shalom, B'Tselem, Uri Avnery are such groups and individuals that get a
special thank you from the people who want peace to come to our land.
Special thanks to all the groups and individuals that are not mentioned. We
will not forget your deeds.

12. Support the ISM (International Solidarity Movement) for they have braved
the Israeli army and some members are currently incarcerated for the
Palestinian cause. Call your Congressmen and tell them to push for the
release of these people. You can find more information on
http://www.ccmep.org/ (http://www.ccmep.org/) . As for government listings, go to
http://www.house.gov/ (http://www.house.gov/) and http://www.senate.gov/ (http://www.senate.gov/) Always stay in touch with
your representatives and senators to inform them, of the Arab point of view.

13. Be proud to be a supporter of Palestine. Wear pins that say Free
Palestine, fly the flag, and don't be intimidated. It's a chance to educate
the public when you wear a shirt that expresses your views. Please remember
that the American public often relies on the biased media and does not have
a chance to get factual information. When Europeans learned the truth, they
backed our cause and so will the American people. We should be proud of our
achievements as the tide is changing!

14. E-mail President Bush and let him know your views
([email protected]). The more people speak out, the further our cause
will go.

15. Do something for Palestine every day. It can be in the form of
donations, letter-writing, meeting your representatives, educating others,
etc. Just one thing.to Free Palestine!

16. . If you were not around in Palestine in 1947 and 1948, call your
relatives who were and ask them for information. Then write it down. We will
never forget what happened and this way, we make sure it is documented.

17. Remember the Palestinians' struggles throughout history. They were
occupied for hundreds of years by the Romans, Crusaders, and Turks. This is
just another part of history where they will come out victorious as they
have for thousands of years. There will be a State of Palestine.

18. Remember those who are killed by Israel. Memories of the dead will never
leave our minds, they are etched there forever.

19. Support Peace! Show the world that the Palestinian People are not
terrorists but they are fighting for the right to survive in a State of
their own. We should condemn suicide bombings as they take the struggle to a
free Palestine back many steps. We understand that the Palestinian People
have no Tanks, Apache helicopters, or F-16s and this is how they defend
themselves and fight for their freedom but most of the world does not. We
need the support of all humanity now so please join the peace effort.

20. Keep your faith and pray for Palestine.

Please do not feel that you have to apply each activity, just take some
action as we need all the voices available for our cause to be heard.
Finally, I hope that you have found this information helpful and that you
will apply some of the ideas included.

When I will create new campaing, I will inform about it also in here.

Sign a letter to CEO Roger Ferguson and join the July 19 Day of Action!

http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=IA1MQH%2FpmEZ3aN7Ltk%2B%2BTD9OY%2BBc9LFr

Dear Chris,

Financial services giant TIAA-CREF is running scared. For more than a year, tens of thousands of people around the country have taken part in the "We Divest" Campaign, calling on TIAA-CREF to divest from Caterpillar, Motorola, Veolia, and other companies profiting from the Israeli occupation.

Recently, TIAA-CREF -- which presents itself as committed to social responsibility and transparency -- censored its shareholders when it suppressed a resolution proposed by investors asking TIAA-CREF to start engaging persuasively with such companies.

Now, TIAA-CREF has gone even farther. Since 2005, all but one of its annual shareholder meetings have been held in New York City. Dozens protested outside the meeting last year, but this year the financial services giant is moving its July 19th meeting to Charlotte, North Carolina. Perhaps they are worried about more protests by those in support of Palestinian human rights? Like Caterpillar, which also recently moved its shareholder meeting to try to avoid us, TIAA-CREF can run but it can't hide!

Let's show TIAA-CREF how we respond to organizations profiting from human rights abuses!

Chris, click here to sign an open letter to CEO Roger Ferguson to be delivered at next week's shareholder meeting.

After you've signed the letter, consider going a step farther to take part in a nationwide day of action on July 19th during the TIAA-CREF shareholder meeting! Click here to see a list of demonstrations set to take place in cities across the country.

With as few as 2-3 people, you too can challenge TIAA-CREF at one of their 60 offices nationwide. There are resources and ideas ready to use. Click here to email "We Divest" Campaign organizer Lev Hirschhorn for more information.

New York City activists recently put on an amazing flash mob in Times Square to educate others about TIAA-CREF's investment in the occupation, and the July 19th day of action. Click here to view the inspiring video and spread the word!

Chris, don't forget to sign this open letter to CEO Roger Ferguson, which will be delivered to him at next week's shareholder meeting.

Learn more and share ideas about the "We Divest" Campaign and BDS activities gaining momentum around the country at our 10th Annual National Organizers' Conference, September 16-19 in Washington, DC! Click here for more information. I hope to see you there!

Tell U.S. Not to Veto Palestine's Membership in UN Security Council

http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=HkJXWKUJqAsSSh%2FSA8VLPObaKbjkcmjQ

Dear Chris,

Last Friday an estimated 2,000 Palestinians and Israelis marched together through the streets of Jerusalem in support of Palestinian efforts to gain UN membership and additional statehood recognition when the UN meets this fall.

Envisioning a future free of Israeli military occupation, apartheid and colonization, these protesters carried placards declaring "We March Together for Liberation," and "Solidarity with Palestine."

Take action now to echo their message to the Obama Administration.

http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=HkJXWKUJqAsSSh%2FSA8VLPObaKbjkcmjQ

Who stands in their way? Our government does. The United States is trying furiously to restart the morally bankrupt "peace process," which perpetually fails because our government acts as "Israel's lawyer," in the words of former negotiator Aaron David Miller.

By dangling before Palestinians the prospect of renewed, biased, and interminable negotiations in exchange for dropping their UN membership bid, the United States is hoping to avert the embarrassment of vetoing Palestine's application in the Security Council and thereby once again exposing itself as the guarantor of Israeli military occupation and apartheid.

Above: These signs appeared among the 2,000 protesters last Friday in Jerusalem.

But, as Friday's demonstrators reminded us: "Only Free People Can Negotiate." And Palestinians are not free people while living under Israeli occupation, as second-class citizens of Israel, or as refugees whom Israel exiled from their homes.

Palestinians are seeking membership in the United Nations as a way toward Palestinian freedom and self-determination, but President Obama mistakenly has equated this with "efforts to single Israel out" at the UN and has promised to "stand up against" this initiative.

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., wrote in his Letter from Birmingham Jail that the worst stumbling block to freedom's advance is the person who "believes he can set the timetable for another" person's freedom.

Join the US Campaign and other prominent national organizations--including: the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, American Jews for a Just Peace, American Muslims for Palestine, CODEPINK--Women for Peace, Fellowship of Reconciliation, Friends of Sabeel--North America, Interfaith Peace-Builders, Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD)--USA, Jewish Voice for Peace, and Peace Action--to urge the Obama Administration not to set a timetable on another's freedom by vetoing Palestine's UN membership application.

This could be debated in the Security Council as early as July 25, so join us today in signing this important petition.

Above: Click to watch our hand-delivery of 7,500 signatures to Ambassador Rice last February, demanding the U.S. support a UN resolution against Israeli settlements.

If we get 100 organizations and 10,000 individuals to endorse the petition, then we'll deliver it to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and U.S. Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice before the vote.

Chris, please take action today and then help us spread the word!

Thank you for taking action to tell the Obama Administration not to veto Palestine's UN membership application.

Josh Ruebner

Initiated by the Chicago-area organization, the Committee for a Just Peace in Israel and Palestine (www.cjpip.org), the “Be on our side” media and education project promotes a positive, productive U.S. policy toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The campaign is building awareness about the massive scale of U.S. aid to Israel, the ways that aid is used, the negative consequences of the aid, and the need to end it now. The companion website, www.TwoPeoplesOneFuture.org is a content-rich resource designed to educate readers about U.S. military aid to Israel, as well as offer action steps for individuals wanting to make a positive pro-peace, pro-justice statement. Please read the principles that inspire the “Be on our side” campaign.
