...but nobody seems to know what the fuck happened, or who was targeted. Maybe attorneys? Random bourgeoisie? Possibly political? I feel like the media is holding something back here.

Police spokesman Clint Norred said there were a series of shootings around Yuma County, adding they were connected, according to the local Yuma Sun newspaper.
"There have been some shootings in the city and county. It looks like the person has targeted certain people but please use extra caution," added city official Greg Wilkinson, cited in an email obtained by the newspaper.
One of the victims, shot in downtown Yuma, was named as an attorney, according to newspaper, which said Norred would not confirm if a suspected shooter was alive or dead.

Why is this in Non-Political when it is openly political. This thread needs to be moved to Politics...

No, it doesn't. The guy was killing people in relation to his divorce case.

So... it... goes... here? Look around, there's no news threads in this forum. It won't get as much attention here - move it to Politics where it belongs, or maybe OI?

This brings up a valid discussion about where regular ol' news topics should be discussed on RevLeft. This wasn't necessarily a political act, which is why I didn't post it in Politics.
Why should OI be the default "news discussion" forum? I try not to post in there if I can help it. This is also too serious for Chit-Chat, so....it ended up here. My apologies. Please move if necessary, but I'm not sure where it should end up.
Anyway, this guy had been divorced 4 times before. Interesting that he picked this one to take out everyone in a 10-mile radius, including himself.

Discuss political method and news from around the world and how this affects our struggle against capitalism and oppression.
Bold added - It belongs in politics.

There doesn't seem to be a lot to discuss in regards to this topic. Some guy went nuts and killed a bunch of people. He probably got legally screwed. The end.

I'd have stuck it in Chit Chat, tbh. That's where all the rest of the "Hey, take a look at this crazy shit I found on the intrawebz" threads go.

For fuck's sake, I apologized for posting in the wrong forum. Move the goddamn thread, I don't care. Or delete it. Jesus.

It was funny to see when the news first came out about this but the specifics not known, the border security nuts instantly thought it was drug violence spillover from Mexico. Went into lengthy rants about the lack of border security, Obama and ICE, how the poor people of the Southwest are suffering inordinate amounts of violence, etc, then find out it was over a divorce, and by an old 73 year old man no less.
An article I'm reading here (http://slatest.slate.com/posts/2011/06/02/yuma_arizona_shooting_spree_5_dead_in_separate_sho otings_in_yuma.html) says that among the five he killed was his ex-wife and her divorce attorney. It doesn't state who the other three were. He also injured a sixth person.
It seems he got pushed to the edge with the divorce proceedings the way they were. It also notes he had gone through four divorces already and had issues with domestic violence:
The New York Times reports that Dyess was married in 2002, but that the mobile home he shared with his wife was transfered to her sole ownership in 2007 because of "dissolution of marriage." Public records also show that while the two were married an order of protection had been issued against Dyess. The AP, meanwhile, notes that Dyess had been previously married and divorced four times before, in Washington state.

The guy didn't go on a shooting spree because of a divorce it was because of a thread like this where everyone puts on their angry pants.

...and then these same idiots abruptly changed their line to go on the defense about how if one of these people had possessed a handgun, then the madman could have been stopped, and then some nonsense about how guns don't kill people, nutcases do, etc.
It seems that Arizona possesses an inordinate number of psychopaths.

You'd have to be to live there. The place is nothing but desert. It's like living on the surface of the goddammed sun. I passed through there once and was looking at everyone like, "What are you, some kind of lizard?"

kind of a similar story out of New Hampshire, about a man going out Tunisia-style in front of a courthouse (http://www.telegram.com/article/20110617/NEWS/106179676)

Ah, marriage - such a happy, wholesome institution. (And I'm married, btw.) This is what happens when you treat your partner as property, though. Don't do that and when the marriage inevitably fails and your partner wants to leave, you won't douse yourself with gasoline in front of a courthouse. Attachment is a fucked up thing.
