No, but I don't listen to much anymore, for obvious lefty reasons.

Not really.
Sexism & homophobia.
I can deal with the drug & gang shit, still not cool but somewhat listenable, I just can't stand hearing any sexist or homophobic lyrics.

yo tbh if you were to follow that line of logic you'd end up living in the hills of western virgina, our entire ideological apparatus (in which you're firmly tied as well) is extremely reactionary, and that includes music. just listen to whatever the fuck you want dude

There's a limit to what I can tolerate. You won't find me blasting someone's shitty spoken word when it's misogynistic, racist, homophobic, xenophobic, etc etc..
I don't agree with those positions and I don't relate with those who do.

isnt the point of the song though to highlight sex slaves, a problem that really exist. I mean the lyrics are fucked up but they mention explicitly Eastern European women being smuggled, and people disappearing off the streets.
Anyways there is really reactionary rap, but there is also a lot that isnt. Whats the point of writing off a whole genre of music?

The fact that you consider hip-hop which doesn't contain utterly reactionary garbage in its lyrics as "clean" is a hell of a comment of the nature of vast swathes of hiphip.

What JustMovement said, isn't that song/video supposed to show you the brutality sex slaves are subjected too through the shocking lyrics and video?
Anyways I feel the same way, I used to love rap until I became a socialist, then I begun to realize how fucked up it was. I can listen to stuff about gangsters shooting up the block but when they start talking about "*****es and hoes" I can't listen to it.

Man I don't know why but it really gets to me that people avoid listening to certain music because of their political beliefs, worse still, some people listen to music solely because it was written and performed by socialists....I mean I like a lot of Paul Robeson and some other progressive black music and also some progressive folk from way back when but you know, music is music, it is primarily supposed to sound good, the message is the cherry on top.
If you really miss listening to a certain type of music, then you will listen to it regardless. I take politics really seriously, I can't help it, my blood boils every time I see something fucked up, from a homeless dude laying in a pool of unidentifiable liquid to watching brown people get the shit bombed out of them on the news. I'm an angry person when it comes to stuff like this and it is probably because I was raised by revolutionaries. But I have learned to separate my political life from my leisure time and this is something that all of you should aspire to do, otherwise you are going to end up living really miserable lives, lives with purpose, sure, but really miserable nonetheless. Work hard for what you believe in and maybe it will pay off for all of us one day, but there IS more to life than red flags and raised fists.
I have absolutely no qualms with listening to Hip Hop (much of which is progressive anyway), reading American comics, watching classic Arnie movies, or committing near genocide in Grand Theft Auto games. I really enjoy life regardless of the fact that humanity is in a miserable state and don't let things get me down.

No, I think it's that some of us have worked towards a better world devoid of homophobia, misogyny, racism etc.. and won't pump our fists in the air to messages we actively fight against.

I could never stop listening to hip-hop just because I'm a communist. In fact, I wouldn't be a communist without hip-hop so maybe your taste in music just sucks ass, sucks for you having to be all self-conscious about your music.:p

Seriously though, nobody has a right to complain about the state of Hip Hop unless they own and have listened to BDP-era KRS, Rakim, TCQ, Hieroglyphics, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Deep Puddle Dynamics, Company Flow, all of that stuff is mostly harmless and is generally considered mainstream now but was underground in it's day so it's easy to get hold of. I get that there is a lot of bad Hip Hop around today but you can't complain about it because there is still so much great music out there waiting to be discovered. I've been listening since about 2000 and I am still finding out about a lot of amazing underground artists from the late 80s early 90s, over the years I have spent ridiculous amounts of money on tapes and records from this era. It doesn't matter that it's old because it's new to me. Check out this blog (http://old-school-hiphop-tapes.blogspot.com/), where you can download old tapes like Mr Magic's Rap Attack and more, there is so much cool music that you haven't heard yet.
