Unions and temp workers/day laborers

Do you all know of any efforts done by US unions to organize, or at least advocate for the rights of, temp workers and/or day laborers? Were they successful, or ongoing?

I'm trying to write a brief article about what unions can and have done for such workers. I know some things about the topic already, and I have some links saved, but I wanted to get more information before I started writing.

The situation has been a bit difficult with most older unions not only in America but also throughout much of the global north. What has happened in many cities is that day laborers have often organized themselves into day laborer centers that seek to command the leverage and they have been negotiating with umbrela unions like the AFL-CIO.
