View Full Version : Internet problems
So i got a new Windows 7 computer. I'm having trouble getting to find any god damn networks. In a normal situation, like with my other computer, it would give me the networks and I'd type the TKIP key. But, no...I can't find a way for it to detect my modem. Worst of all, I cant get an ethernet cable from the router to the computer...its too far away. (But not far enough that I shouldn't get internet).

Try to manually connect to your network
Edit: If you don't know how to do this let me know.

No, I'm talking about manually connecting (wireless)
Go to 'Network and Sharing Center' and click on 'Setup a new connection or network' and then click 'Manually connect to a wireless network'.
You will need to know what type of security your network uses.
Edit: Let me know if this doesn't work

apparently this is a notorious bug on windows 7.

Basically as best I can gather you need to manually uninstall and reinstall your network card's driver.

I also read that uninstalling the default program Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 might help

Sorry man, I'd try to help but I just got kicked off my roommate's windows 7 machine ... :(
If you can wait about 10-12 hours I can try to look into how you'd go about uninstalling it. It sounds though like someone customized the settings which is rather bizarre. If this is a shared machine I suggest confronting whoever did this. If it came with a factory CD, I think you're better bet woudl be to back up the user data (which needs to be done regularly anyway) and try reinstalling it. If not, again, I'll see what I can dig up tomorrow.

It was customized cuz it was originally a office computer but is in my home now.
