When the call of nature comes, it cannot always be denied. Few have answered it in such an unfortunate fashion as Alois Mabhunu.
While on duty at a trade fair, the Zimbabwean police sergeant could not hold on and allegedly dashed to the nearest toilet – disastrously, it transpired, as it was reserved for President Robert Mugabe (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/robert-mugabe).
He was arrested and imprisoned on suspicion of invading the presidential privy.
The incident happened at the annual Zimbabwe (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/zimbabwe) International Trade Fair (ZITF) in the western city of Bulawayo, according to local radio station VOP (http://www.radiovop.com/index.php/national-news/6418-never-use-toilet-reserved-for-president.html).
Under the headline "Never Use Toilet Reserved For President!" VOP's website reported that Mabhunu was on duty during the fair's official opening by Mugabe and Jean-Louis Ekra, the president of Afreximbank.
"Mabhunu, due to the call of nature, rushed to the toilets reserved for Mugabe and his guest Ekra, but was stopped by other officers guarding the toilets," VOP said.
"Under intense pressure from the call of nature, the officer forced his way in and managed to relieve himself. He was arrested on 7 May after a report was made to Mugabe's security men and to senior police officers in the city."
Mabhunu, a murder detective, is in police detention at barracks on the outskirts of Bulawayo. The legality of the case against him was challenged by Beatrice Mtetwa, a leading Zimbabwean human rights lawyer.
"There has to be a law saying the toilet is the president's, but this was a public one," she said. "They will have had to issue a proclamation in the government gazette specifying it. I bet they didn't do that."
Mugabe's personal space – and reputation as father of the independent nation – are fiercely protected. Several motorists are said to have been assaulted by his security personnel for not giving way to the presidential motorcade.
In March, Douglas Mwonzora, a leading member of the Movement for Democratic Change, was waiting for a court session to start when he looked at a portrait of Mugabe and said: "How are you, father? How is your health?"
This was greeted with mirth in the courtroom but he was charged with insulting the president, an offence punishable by up to a year in prison.
Another man will go on trial next month charged with posting an offensive message on Facebook. Vikas Mavhudzi allegedly wrote on prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai's 'wall': "What happened in Egypt is sending shockwaves to all dictators around the world. No weapon but unity of purpose. Worth emulating, hey."

I suppose "real socialists" like Mugabe deserve to have exclusive control over the means of defecation. Seriously though, what kind of senile, paranoid tyrant arrests people for using the toilet or has people assaulted for driving near his motorcade, or sends people to jail for writing on their facebook wall? This would just be an amusing joke if these people didn't actually risk real jail time over such a trivial things. It is also a sign that their cult of the leader has extended to an absurd degree.

But there's obviously no ounce of truth in this bourgeois propaganda, designed to encircle, entrap and defeat the threat to world capitalism that is glorious leader of men, women and children, defender against imperialism, our dear comrade Robert Mugabe.

so when Nato chooses a rebel faction to their liking, will you clowns be cheering on another Nato bombing of a 3rd world country?

A man's throne is his domaine and his domaine alone. This is totally understandable.

Why are fundamentalist anti-Imps so fond of these kinds of zero sum games? "You're critical of Mugabe, that must mean you support a NATO invasion of Zimbabwe!" Can't we just be critical of bourgeois third-world police-state tyrants just like we're critical of bourgeois first-world imperialists? Criticizing one of two evils doesn't mean one supports the other evil.

Two points in defense of this penalty:

Firstly, Marxists oppose private property, the means of production, not personal property. I’m quite sure that Mugabe’s personal toilet falls under the latter. Besides, for those who disagree, would you really want just anybody using your personal toilet or a toilet reserved for you and you alone? I honestly wouldn’t want some bedraggled anarchist who seldom bathes using mine any time he wants. That's what public restrooms and bushes are for.

Secondly, also regarding hygiene, let me pose a scenario. What if the sergeant had a venereal disease of some kind and did his business and shortly after that, Mugabe unwittingly does his business on the very same disease infested toilet? He could contract gonorrhea or pubic lice. Do you know how hard it is to fight imperialism while also fighting a venereal disease? Well, it ain’t easy.

Bottom line, in the struggle against capitalism, our anti-imperialist leaders need personal toilets.

Please, please tell me that this is a piss-take. I'm not sure that I could stand to live in a world where somebody sincerely believes that this makes sense, let alone believes it to be a solid principle.

I got the impression that they took a public restroom and then reserved it solely for Mugabe. That sounds ridiculous to me. If somebody really had to go and went to some random portopotty or small restroom facility and it said "reserved for president obama" do you think anyone would actually care if they really had to go?

shit, this is america, this country is all for doing your own business wherever you like. ;)
