View Full Version : troll threads and how to deal with them without sounding like you are crying

obviously revleft doesn't know how to deal with trolls in a funny way. this is due to the fact that leftists are so used to getting indignant with people that they're incapable of dealing with a troll without saying "you nationalist scum!". here's how to deal with a troll thread. there's one do, and a lot of don'ts.

Do...

1) Post an irrelevant picture of an animal or a train or a plane or something like that. Also comment on other peoples pictures, but don't make any reference whatsoever to the thread and don't try to make an actual joke. Just make normal comments.

Don't...

1) Call them a nationalist/sexist/homophobic/racist scum or anything else that makes you sound like a stereotypical indignant hilariously emotional leftist
2) Post counterarguments
3) Tell them that they don't understand the tr00 communism
4) Post anything that sounds like you're crying over the internet.
5) Quote troll posts in your picture posts
6) Key thing here. This is an important one. Even after you post a picture, the above still apply. I have seen a picture and thought "nice" but then below it "ban this reactionary scum" and was like "gaaaaah"

Do you think you are up to the challenge?!

I flew Lufthansa when I went to Russia (stopover in Munich). They have easily the best airline food I've had, I'd actually eat it at home if I could.

I am a socialist, I am an enemy of today’s capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and I am determined to destroy this system under all conditions. One must learn to identify trolls quickly. For example, the quoted hypothetical troll is paraphrasing Hitler. This is common troll behaviour.

Good thread, should be sent to all active members via pm, nobody knows how to effectively counter a troll around here

I was thinking maybe they should deputize a few of the former mods like maybe Q, Best mod, August West and so on to trash threads as soon as they pop up. Dunno just an idea

but yeah we all need to stick to the rules don't feed the trolls

But don't new members' posts still need to be modded before they even show up? So it's not really about that...as long as people (particularly Gacky and Hindsight, who always seem to love acting as if the trolls are serious and typing out really long responses to their posts ) don't get drawn in, it'll be okay...

Actually, I think we should have a subforum in chit chat called "Troll threads" and move all the troll threads there.

When a wild troll appears I will send out pokemon pictures to fight him then use a poke-ball to capture him. Then I will bring him out to fight other trolls, under my guidance he will over-use his own subculture's memes to overtake another troll.

I wanna be a poketroll trainer... I wanna be the very best...that no one ever was...

I suggest we just make it Kuppo's duty to interact with the trolls...nobody else say anything to them...he's our troll vanguard...

You must use your powers for good and not succumb to the negative side of them.

Speaking of which, I decided to make a thread for my irrelevant Tito post.

Good way to avoid being trolled: Chill the fuck out. Don't get mad at any discussion you have on the internet you fucking babies.

That goes for troll and regular threads

actually, if you make long winded counter arguments they get bored and say "i was expecting something better"

like my charts and engels quote. people responded to the trollers 4chon thread with "i expected more" as in funny.

the troller ended up getting defensive really quick when Revleft hivemind came in and destroyed him.

yes i participated a lot in the thread about women but i wanted to test my arguments and my understanding of feminism.

its not very often that i go into OI. so yeah, maybe i got trolled, maybe i counter trolled, i dont care. i wanted to see if i could put some of what i am reading to text.

Well, with some "trolls" the case is like this

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WnL7RWItNcM/Tdg_BRcSZ1I/AAAAAAAAAAM/sX4fJ_BLPyE/s1600/Trolls+trolling.gif

Though honestly I think revleft can deal with possibly being slightly less serious and obsessive over some things and just cool off.

Step 1: Open a new tab and go to Google
Step 2: Type "cute animals"
Step 3: Select appropriate adorable animal
Step 4: Copy
Step 5: Paste

5 easy steps to a good laugh and successful troll-aversion.

In my opinion, the best way to deal with a troll is to convince them that you're taking them seriously.

Seems we need to agree on something, then. See, I'm caught between the two realms myself...on one hand, you can calmly discuss ideas (without getting all 'you fucking idiot!!! :cursing:' at them), and then they might think 'oh...I was trying to troll, but they're not annoyed at all, this sucks'. On the other hand, there's just the...not even attempting to engage them at all...to be honest, as long as people abide by one of those two, I don't mind...keep the emotion out of troll threads, you know. Mari3L seems to be really good at it, actually...

Historically, a less unfortunate term is "Eternal September", since back in the days of Usenet a whole load of noobs got e-mail accounts and access to the Internet when they came to college in September, temporarily upsetting the newsgroup's ecosystem. With widespread use of the Internet from around 1993, it was an "eternal summer" of noobs.
